Why should the club be punished (by the player being banned) for something he allegedly (Mod Edit) did at a previous club seven years ago?

Lovely betting sponsor on his old Blackburn shirt too.....

Fingers crossed the lad doesn't get too harshly punished for a 6 year old alleged (Mod Edit) offence.

Seriously could not make this up at this club sometimes. Clearly before he joined us, but it will be us who suffer. We have to start planning for games without him for a considerable time. Dip your hand in the pocket time as I think Chapman has quality we don’t have anywhere else and is a huge miss.

Same reason Brentford have been punished for Ivan Toney doing it at previous clubs. If he's guilty he's an idiot.

I guess the length of any ban will largely depend on how many times he’s done it.

And what he's done. Personally I think anyone who is betting on their own team to lose (and I believe Toney was doing this) should be banned for life.

Any proper details are unknown at this point. Toney had over 200 betting accounts, some involving games he was playing in and got an 8 month ban and a £50,000 fine. Dunno how much the FA take into account the timing when involving the bans, but for 2 of those months it is the off season too.

Trippier got a 10 week back and a £70,000 fine for allegedly prompting his friends to bet on him leaving Spurs to Athletico. Will all depend on what exactly he bet on and how many times. The fact is says 'offence' rather than 'offences' might point to it being a one off?

How are the FA getting the information on these players and their betting? Have they all signed up to give the FA access to central betting records

I hope he wasn’t betting on himself to score.

He's only 25 now, so would have been 18/19 at the time. Depending on the nature of the alleged (Mod Edit) offence one would hope the FA takes that into account.

Don’t be so dramatic what has it to do with BCFC. How would the club know about it when he signed? Blackburn didn’t, the FA didn’t, so how are WE supposed to know?

Live with it and move on. It sounds like a single alleged (Mod Edit) offence anyway.

Betting companies work with the FA to identify irregular betting patterns which can be often traced back to footballers, also it only takes an accusation by 1 person then the FA have the right to request bank statements and other paperwork, phone conversations from players.

Cheers how do they (fa) have the right to trawl someone's private data though, have the players signed up to something, in the world of GDPR data privacy is a huge thing , and this isnt a criminal offence ?

The FA should spend more time looking into the impact betting companies have in football, they are advertised everywhere. They want to try cleaning the sport up rather than offences from players from when they were basically still children.

I like Chapman but I don’t think he would have been a starter to begin with anyway. I hope he is not banned from training though as Toney is.
