I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up on more, but the Half-Time table sees us top of the league with 3 more victories than our nearest challenger, Leyton Orient.

We've only conceded 8 goals in the first half all season too, which is brilliant. Why are we shipping them in, in the second half?

This possibly gives us some clues as to what's been going wrong.

    - Are we leaving it too long before making substitutions - perhaps our players aren't as fit as what MH thinks they are / is used to working with?

    - Are our Half Time team talks uninspiring?

    - Are we changing tactics when we go ahead to encourage an 'onslaught'?

    - Is there any issue with the team's psychology on the pitch when in the lead? (I've noticed we tend to play more on the front foot when we're behind / late in the match)

Really interesting diagnostic that. I wonder to what extent the staff have looked into that. Blimey, check out Northampton n all.

    Nice stat.

Don't know what the reason is, to be honest.

Complacency? Letting the tempo drop because we think we've done the hard bit?

Whatever it is, it's hard to believe the squad/management haven't noticed. They must be trying to address this, surely?

Don't we have analysts to look at this sort of thing? I'm sure we know this and are working on it.

Have we a second half table, for reference?

Yeah, we're just below the fiddler's arms and kept off the bottom by AFC Wellington.

And there we have it. Doesn't really matter where you are in the table after 45 minutes, it where you are after 90 that counts.

    That is some contrast.

    1st half - Top. Coasting.
2nd half - Head only just above water, above the drop zone.

This would suggest to me that pre-match preparation is excellent, and we start off very solid (conceding very few in the first half), but our mid-game management leaves a lot to be desired.

This is a fascinating stat. It is something the whole team should be shown. Are we not fit enough to keep up the intensity? Or do we get confused in the second half? It needs to be looked at so it can be rectified

Job done, back slapping, large brandy & big cigar on at half time syndrome. Hughes needs to compile a VT of "Fergie Time" goals and play to them on constant loop.

I think it's fitness. We've played slow ponderous possession football far too much so players don't run around as much or as quickly as other teams. Our match fitness is not as good as teams that press and chase all game and play rapid, more direct football. We tire in the second half. They don't. I assumed that's why we were so poor on a heavy pitch in the second half against Rochdale but I've already thought it several times this season.

I think it is this, along with other teams making tactical changed that we are unable to counter.

What is very disappointing is that early in the season there was talk about having a large squad and 'teams' for playing sections of the match. Using substitutions strategically, with starters and finishers. That plan seems to have gone by the wayside.

I would also argue that the lack of options in central midfield is killing us. We've spent a lot of the season with Gilliead and Smallwood doing the work of three in the centre of the park. For all the concerns about creativity etc, if they are being run into the ground, it isn't a great surprise that we are failing in the second half of the game.

Do you remember hughes saying about we need to start taking the lead or the first goal.We have taken the lead on number of occasions and thrown it away.
