GOAT - Team of 1998-99 (Greatest Of All Time)

The football we played that season was absolutely brilliant. We outplayed so many teams.

I think the nearly season of 87/88 was close to this to be fair, but I missed quite a bit of it working Saturdays.

 

So many likeable players in that squad. I think its the model team so many of us compare everything back to year after year because it was just so good. The game has moved on, but is all the worse for it. Lawrence and Beagrie on the wings and a ‘little n large’ striker partnership was class. Hate all the modern set ups. Boring.

Parkinson’s history makers were second to that 1998/99 team for me (started going in 1993).

 

Who was the comms bloke that used to shout on the videos?

“YEAAAAAAAASSSSSSS YEAAAAAASSSSSSSSS”

 

Its very close between the 98/99 squad and the one of 87/88 but ultimately 98/99 gets it, i'll never have the privilege of seeing a side anywhere near that class ever again at Bradford. The link between the two squads, Stuart McCall, words cannot describe how good he was.

Second season as a season ticket holder, safe to say it peaked rather early.

 

My late mum only ever went to one City game in her entire life.
The 5-0 demolition of Bristol city in the 98/99 season.

I still remember this as one of the most complete displays of attacking football I’ve seen as a city fan.

 

Was that the game where we were 5-0 up at half time?

 

No.
2-0 at HT and then 2 quick goals at the start of the second half,before a Blake last minute goal.

 

Keith Coates was his name worked for the video company I believe Cavaler sports , think we poached him from Stockport that's where they were based , sure he was commentating on one of the games Big Kevin Francis scored against us which he did quite often unfortunately

 

I so wanted Stuart to beat Millwall and then walk away to make up for his first go with us , and to get one over Edin who still wanted him out even when things were going well . Still is and always be the legend he is

 

In my view it was our best team. Yes we have had good teams 87/88, and Parky Teams, but the PL promotion Team were exceptional. I used to turn up every match thinking we would win. They never knew when they were beaten. The Team and the Fans were melded together and in my view that somehow is the magic formula. Whether we can aspire to that level again is anyone’s guess.

 

He commentated on the Arsenal game in premier league on the video and called Thierry Henry ,Terry Henry. He always used to say “Oh deary me” when we conceded a goal.

 

I used to meet mates in the Bankfield for a drink before matches and we would have a prediction contest. £1 entry and correct score took the pot. You couldn't duplicate anyone else's prediction and you couldn't predict a City defeat. We drew lots for order of predictions.
In normal seasons the first person would predict a draw or a 2-1 win or suchlike. If you were low in the lottery you were stuck with predicting high scores that were very unlikely to occur. But in that promotion season the first predictors were going for scores like 3-0, 4-1 etc, that would have been madness in other years, and winning.

 

Wow, we can only dream of a couple of goals even at the end of the game these days
