Anyone watch the first episode of Peter Jackson's expanded version of the Let it Be footage, on Disney+, last night?
It's a long watch but, as a Beatles nut, I found it fascinating. The highlight for me was watching McCartney strumming his bass like it was a six string guitar and composing the melody to Get Back on the fly - genius at work.

    I'm guessing that's a 'No' then.

I'm watching the second one now.

As I've got more into music as I get older I now realise their later stuff is actually better than the early stuff. Lookng forward to watching the footage.

It is a bit like watching a reality TV show like Big Brother in some ways. Some quite long periods with not too much happening and lots of repetition of them developing and rehearsing the same songs. But, for me at least, it's worth it for the moments of pure musical inspiration and genius. And, for all that they are clearly getting on each others nerves quite a lot by this time, there are moments when the shared joy and chemistry between Lennon and McCartney is magical.
The bit in Episode 2 when Billy Preston drops in to the studio and they rope him in on electric piano is great. The energy in the room suddenly goes sky high and everything moves to a different level. And the rooftop concert in Ep 3 is iconic. I remember watching Top of the Pops and seeing them do Get Back on the rooftop and loving it. As a kid I always had a bit of a man crush on McCartney and I think he looked as cool as he's ever looked at that time, with the suit and the beard.
I've never rated Let it Be as one of The Beatles better albums. In the film we see them working on Another Day (later Paul's first solo single), All Things Must Pass (title track of George's first solo album) and Gimme Some Truth (on John's Imagine album). If only they'd developed those three further and put them on the Let It Be album instead of some of the filler, it could have been a great album.

I went to see the Beatles in Bradford , couldn't hear a thing . They were an enigma and appeared at the right time . Alot of the music was years ahead of its time , they also laid the foundations for the modern day music industry . The documentry is putting to rest a few old wives tales regarding their demise , all in all a very good documentry .

I saw them in Bradford in 1964. Mary Wells was support act. Beatles were OK but there are a lot of better bands about.
