He obviously has some talent and each coach thinks they can deal with his wild side, only to be proved wrong

By his wild side, do you mean the mental health problems he's been battling with?

Did that cause the off the field incident that meant he was released from his contract with Vikings?

I would say so, yes. He's had serious mental health issues, depression, bipolar and he's turned to booze and other addictions like so many do.

"‘Things weren’t going well at home. I wasn’t sleeping right. I was drinking too much. I’d seen crisis teams in hospital and they had turned me away. I had cut myself countless times and they turned me away, too, so I thought: “What have I got to do to get the proper help?” I was taken into hospital after the overdose. They put me on a drip and flushed it all out of me."

He's apparently been working with Gary Charles who now runs a company called GCSportsCare who specialise in prevention and intervention for elite athletes in relation to addictions and mental health issues.

The kid obviously has talent and you'd like to think the support from the industry is there for him. Not just to be cast aside. I have had health problems in the past that have impacted on my ability to do my job, and occupational health was there to make the necessary recommendations and referrals to get better and back to my full working capacity.

I get all that as I too have been there as I have previously explained on here about my drinking etc. But the main thing is you need to want to help yourself and it is about following the advice that is given from the professionals. I’m sorry but he needs to take some ownership of his own actions, mental issues or not,

Not sure when the quote is from above but he must start taking some responsibility if for nothing else but putting himself in positions that lead to problems. If playing football is too much for him to cope with then he has to accept that and move on. Repeating the same things will keep getting the same results, something had to change.

It beggars belief that a £2m investment at a club like Everton would “not have any other guidance other than pals with drugs and booze”. Especially considering the talent that has come out of there (Stones and Barkley were in the same team as a youngster)

There’s got to be a large element of George choosing to ignore a lot of guidance offered to him.

His own comments, 'As soon as I was 18 it was like a new world opened up. I was drinking, doing drugs and playing football'.

He is an adult and is in a position to make his own decisions.

I guess the PFA should seek to become involved in the general situation. To give such a young person huge sums of money seems utterly ridiculous. It would make sense for there to be some form of pension fund payment so that when their career does end, they have something to provide an income.

Sadly the game is littered with former players who have had poor outcomes. Alcohol, gambling, depression and drugs seem to feature and then for a few, there is for some involvement in criminality.

trouble is there will always be a club who disregard the rules and sneak money to them or parents to encourage the player to join them

fair play to him but I think he has to prove him self again due to the number of comebacks he has already had. Just like someone who keeps breaking their leg would drop down the leagues to start again

I wouldn't be opposed to us signing him and loaning him out to non league initially.

I agree with @Storck@Storck that he has to drop down the leagues and prove himself, he has had a few lives already in terms of his career, but I'd rather we held his registration and lent him to Farsley Celtic than Farsley held his registration and we couldn't afford him ala Jamie Vardy.

Keep the money low, keep the terms favourable to the club, keep expectations and pressure down and see how he does.

If he's good enough for League One/Two, he'll tear it up if he can concentrate on a full season loan without worrying too much about paying rent or whatever. If he's not good enough, well, that's probably what most people would expect. If he's REALLY good, we could bring him back in January.

He already plays in non league.

The idea that he might tear up league 2 when he hasn’t even done it for Chester FC, Boston United and Gainsborough Trinity is wishful thinking.

I don't think he'll year up League Two, I meant if he did tear up non league while in a more secure position financially.

But yeah, chances are his career is done - but he's still young. No other way back now than hard work climbing up the ladder.
