    You did not always need the fog,if the wind was in the right direction,the steam from the cooling towers often made viewing difficult.

    I started watching Bradford Northern 1968 and remember a lot of cold afternoons and a few evenings up there. The coldest was probably an international when Great Britain's Dads Army beating the mighty Aussies back in the 1970s. It was freezing but during the game I didn't notice it as much because as well as winning the game I was in the middle of a 36,000 crowd.

    I think that might have been the time when the cold made my eyes stream so much it washed out a contact lens, and, as far as I know, it’s still there. That meant that I had to drive back to Sheffield with severely reduced vision in one eye. It wasn’t too bad on the motorway, I just sat in lane one and followed the blur in front. But getting away from Odsal, and through Sheffield to home, was not an experience I’d care to repeat. Lesson learned, always carry glasses in the car.
