I suspect this is because either Doyle or Lewis is carrying a knock and we need a bench warmer. It will be a youth loan, so any development would be training with a first team squad and he's probably very cheap. I don't expect him to play any games and I certainly don't believe he's here to replace Doyle as number two on a long term basis.

The thing is though PL youth keepers get way more access to first-team training than outfielders generally do. Outfield players will only get called up if either they are at that cross-over point to becoming first teamers or if there are excessive first team players missing and they need more bodies. Keepers on the other hand will do the general training with the u21 team but will usually then go off with the first team keepers for specific keeper training. I'm not sure Wolves would hence see much benefit to his development which perhaps speaks volumes to how they rate him.

And if Doyle isn't deemed able to be a number 2 so you needed a number 2 he just doesn't seem the right choice. If Lewis gets injured and you are forced to rely on him it could be problematic. You would think there should be an experienced keeper on the older side who could do the job and would be happy being on the bench and wouldn't cost much when Keepers are such an important and specialised position

Because no player that's played in non-league has ever been good enough for the football league, wright?

Well he hasn't been brought in to cover an injury then. Not even on the bench today

Sometimes young kids just need to be given a chance. Harry Lane didn't pull up any trees at any of his 3 loan spell8 and only got a chance at Spurs because of an injury crisis. Who knows what this is could be?

I don't he'll get an opportunity but if he does I'm not prepared to write him off just because he dropped to non league just to get some first team action.

I don't want to be negative on this lad but what's the purpose of him if he can't even get on the bench for this cup match?

If Lewis gets injured then Doyle will be in the 11 and Joe will be on the bench. Some PL clubs send out the young lads on loan just to get them out of their comfort zones and not expect them to get much game time.

That would mean we've used one of our loan slots up for no particular benefit to the playing side of things, which would seem a bit odd.

We might be doing his club a favour by giving him experience, whilst building a stronger relationship for future deals.

Do we have unlimited loan spaces though? Genuine question. Because if we could have say 10 people on loan but only 5 in the match day squad, then that's OK.

I think it's 8 at any 1 time and 5 in the matchday squad. With the 2 loans today it's hard to see how he ever gets into the squad unless 1 of the loan players are injured. If we do need him in the squad then it's probably between Harratt and Wright as to who had to miss out on the matchday squad with the other 3 probably going to be starters.

He's now left Wolves by mutual consent but still training with us as a free agent. Presume we'll keep him around if we need an emergency free agent keeper to sign. Looks like he had a trial with Ipswich a couple of weeks ago but didn't get offered anything. Potentially if Doyle retires from playing in the summer we could be looking at him as the back up keeper for next season

i suppose it gives the lad a chance to get himself a contract elsewhere, without the hassle of a club having to deal with Wolves, and as a free agent , he can sign for anyone at anytime.

Seems to have been an odd one from start to finish. Given he is now a free agent you'd have to presume he is no longer getting a wage.

Will probably get a full time gig here now for either 6 or 18 months, which was perhaps the best end goal anyway, but we'll see.

We have to suppose the lad asked to be released from his contract at Wolves,so you would guess he has something in the pipeline.
