It was obvious to many last night that our players looked exhausted. Our intensity dropped and Walsall high pressed us. I think this has happened a few times.
Now this could be a mental stamina issue. The heat is really on at this time of the season.

We have a large squad but MH wants lots of experience on the field of play. Nothing wrong with that, but recovery takes longer for older players. Whereas for younger players the incessant pressure to win twice a week might be taking its toll.
The last time we gained promotion, the winning super charged the players as we had cup runs in and amongst.

I get the "don't change a winning team" mindset, but his game changers that won the Colchester game again didn't start. The entire midfield were replaced in that game and the extra pace Chapman, Banks and Osadebe gave us made Colchesters shape open up more. We've only got 2 more midweek games, so fingers crossed we shouldn't need mega amounts of leggy rotation, but I wouldn't be against 3 or 4 changes on Saturday to freshen the feel.

In terms of general fitness, I think other sides have looked way fitter than us this season. A lot of our guys start blowing seemingly way earlier than the opposition with that spell around Wimbledon, Stockport & Rochdale games being really telling for it. Last night, Walsall looked like they could press for another half, which isn't right when we don't particularly play a high press, we stick to shape and try move around the play.

Deffo time to freshen the legs in midfield, (East/ Banks) and hopefully have Derbyshire back for Saturday to replace Elvis.
