Who’s left us to make us weaker that we can’t replace with loans in a few weeks

No, if we'd scored one more at home it would have gone to penalties, likewise if we had conceded one less away. If we had conceded two less away we would have gone to Wembley. Therefore the blame lays fairly & squarely with the defence.

If we’d scored 2 at home it wouldn’t even have gone to extra time

But it did, so your point is irrelevant. They could quite easily have won 2.0 or 3.0 in normal time up there.

Eh! We lost 1-0 in normal time up there so they wouldn’t have had the chance to score 3 times.
Anyway, goals win games. Stop pretending it’s the defending that cost us promotion

Well, we can replace anyone with loans. But that's kind of my point. We need 3 or 4 quality players in my opinion. We're short.

Get real. We scored the same number of goals as Leyton Orient. They conceded fewer and won the league. Very very rarely do teams win leagues or get promoted with a you score 3, well score 4 approach.

We finished sixth because we conceded too many. End of.

Who do you think is missing?

Only a Wright/Banks type for me.

The bench looks a bit weaker due to injuries, but I'm not fussed. Those players will come back.

Pointon looks promising early, doesn't mean too much, but I'd rather have Pointon on the bench than a Pereira who is going to do nothing.

We had a loan-heavy bench at times last season with Dion, Bola, Crichlow and Nevers all sitting there (until Platt got himself sent off and lost his place again). I'm not fussed about having a loan-heavy bench - and Eisa going is something I couldn't care less about.

Honestly, I think 'looking weaker' is largely cosmetic at this point. It won't make a difference where it matters most, which is the first XI.

Assuming we're going 352, we're missing at least a left wing back. And who's the back 3? Stubbs, Taylor, Platt? With Kelly and Ogoyeke as backup? Hmm

McDonald had a great CV, but will he play?

I just think we have question marks all over.

Tbf, it's largely guess work at this point. But I'm not confident.

The weakest area for me looks like Derbyshire as back up for Cook/Smith.

I don't think that's going to cut the mustard.

Don’t worry, if the defence is tight we can scrape plenty of 0-0 draws.

I agree with you that there were too many occasions last season where we conceded in injury time which cost us the win and this ultimately cost us automatic promotion but my point is that if we’d had more up front and done more in the preceding 90 mins of the game then those last minute equalisers won’t have mattered.
You can’t expect to hold on to a 1-0 win every week.

Agree. I also think we lack a Banks/Wright type as you've said.

I don't think we will do as well as last season, but that's not due to costs. I reckon our player budget is quite a bit up on last season. Look at whose left, hardly big earners.

According to Hughes we are going to press this season and from what we have seen so far our weakness is mobility at the back centrally we are weaker for the loss of Chrichlow. Taylor has his attributes his distribution looks decent from what I have seen he is decent in the air and his long throw is a weapon however he is on the slow side of stalled gets turned easily and lacks balance. However this judgement of him is from friendly matches only we should all reserve judgement until we see have seen him over a few competitive games

Yeah I haven't really seen much of preseason so can't form many opinions on what's happened.

Stubbs is slow, Platt is slow, by all accounts Taylor is slow, but that's not the end of the world if we're not playing it out from the back constantly.

    Let them win headers.

Let the midfield play the football.
