We don't need a sporting director to accomplish that though.
All we need to do is employ managers with a similar playing style. That way we will be able to use the player base we have with minimum disruption.
Why spend money we don't really have in a position that we don't need.

 

Cheap prices are brilliant and right for our club and it’s location.all this rubbish is brought about because we are failing on the field but twice we have been close to the championship with affordable football and prices should stay low until we actually achieve it. Affordable has lots of benefits better atmosphere more money from franchise and catering more money from sponsorship and it’s sets us out from the crowd.

I think he means that if you win games but don't get promoted they don't count towards your managerial record. I suppose that means any manager losing but avoiding relegation gets to keep their job. It's an interesting concept.

 

Do I think hiring McCall is weak appointment -100%. It is weak and has no backbone! It's an appointment that highlights the club has no future planning. Club just care about season ticket sales.

However, McCall is an appointment that gives us time to get our house in order. It's an appointment that will bring the fans together and we can hopefully build towards a future.

We were wasting our time with Bowyer in every way but McCall deserves time and he will get time from me.

Do I think he's a good manager - No, I don't! But I can tell even by little things he said last week before and after the game he's a better manager than he was the last time he was here. No, dressing things up, saying we lacked quality and even talking about poor throwings.

Do I think McCall is the right fit for us- 100% he loves the club and knows this will be his last chance. If I a man honest I would of given him a 4 year contract but said we will be appointing a sporting director to help out.

Give him time! Bowyer made a team more unbalanced and we need to start again. I hope we go up this season because next season will be a lot tougher but he deserves more than the now 14 games you are giving him.

 

Absolutely Stuart's success should be measured on results, but I also anticipate more patience for a manager playing a more entertaining and attacking form of football.

It wasn't the results that got Bowyer sacked - I know he didn't win in 7 or whatever, but two relatively heavy defeats aren't usually the end for a manager - it was purely the football that did him in with weeks and weeks of unrest that started and continued while we weren't even losing consecutive games.

Stuart will be able to endure a similar run to Bowyer simply because fans don't want to gauge their eyes out on a match day or wash their girlfriend's hair as opposed to attend.

 

Christ, cant you just let us have a week with no shithousery about the manager? I know its a forum but hes not even been here a week and you are already bringing down the good mood.

 

Trying to put McCall to one side for a minute.

For any manager I'd want to see improvement in results but also outlook and plan from now to the end of the season. I don't like judging managers before they have had a summer transfer window as a minimum but as with Hopkin or Jackson it's not always justifiable.

Specifically with McCall though I really struggle simply because I don't see him as a particularly good manager. If it goes badly for the rest of the season the memories of how his last 2 times here ended will be just too raw.

I know however that McCall has to actually do terribly for people to accept him leaving. I know that if he just fails then the majority of people will want to plod on with it on and on. It's a weird mindset for me.

 

Sorry Fordy isn't that exactly what I said. Under McCall mediocre will be accepted and even excused when it wouldn't be under 99% of other managers. Very similar to Ole in your example.

As somebody who wants to see the club move forward rather than plod I struggle with the outlook.

 

I agree with that as well.

Another reason that it worries me.

Fans turning on owners never works. Owners sell clubs because it makes financial sense, not because Barry from Brighouse decides to sing a song.

McCall doing well brings us all together, McCall doing badly makes the club more divisive than ever.

 

To be fair, the owners can actually take action right now to make sure fans understand their long term ambitions and that we have a succession plan should Stuart not work out or should he leave at the end of his contract in 18 months.

They could appoint a director of football or similar, or outline a forward thinking transfer policy.

Or, they could just hope Stuart works out and if he doesn't, pick somebody else to pin their hopes on with little rhyme or reason.

 

I am not optimistic, but bloody hell!! c’mn try just hoping for awhile.

 

I think we were lucky to still be in the game at half time. We then came out and improved against an extremely poor team. However if we play like that for the rest of the season we won't be getting into the playoffs and if we did it would mean a massive dip in form of the other teams in and around us.

 

Neither does a playoff win at Wembley.

 

Bowyers loss record being good doesn't surprise me. He had a very short bad patch relatively speaking.

But what is the guys draw percentage? Because it's playing for draws and defending against poor sides that cost him his job - not defeats.

 

Agree. Went to the Burnley friendly pre-season after he had been in place for about 4 weeks. He had completely transformed the style of play in that period and we were out passing and out playing Burnley. The sight of Rory passing out from the back rather than going for the long diagonal will live long in the memory!!
