European Super League: Uefa and Fifa rules banning breakaway league unlawful, says court - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67783970

This will be interesting for European Football, many thought the fans reaction had put clubs off, it will be interesting to see what happens now as it will surely be reserected again.

There is a key couple of sentences in the judgement: "That does not mean that a competition such as the Super League project must necessarily be approved. The Court does not rule on that specific project in its judgment."

But yes you are right, it will probably lead to an attempt to resurrect the project and FIFA/UEFA will have to find new ways to block it (without exceeding their authority, as per the judgement).

If the likes of Man U, Man City, Liverpool etc are still interested it will be interesting to see if they take notice of their fan base going forward, as many believed it was one of the reasons for not being fully commited.

I’m sure there will be a revived Super League proposal at some stage. But I don’t think it will be a small ‘closed shop’ affair as was proposed before. The reaction of the fans to that idea, which would have taken them out of their domestic leagues, was so negative that I don’t think they’ll be trying that again.

Something like this is far more likely, I think:

“Proponents of a Super League have continued to devise plans for a competition. A22 presented a 10-point manifesto for reinventing the concept in February. It committed to “open competition” involving 60-80 clubs, chosen on sporting merit from their domestic leagues (which they would continue to play in). That would include a divisional system, meaning teams could be promoted or relegated within the competition.”

Some such scheme will probably eventually replace the Champions League, I reckon.

The annoying thing at the time which I expressed here was that so many fans, not just of the clubs involved but also fans of other clubs complaining about the closed shop locking to them out were completely clueless. They hadn't been following UEFAs proposals for European reform that also basically created a closed shop, especially for top leagues and leveraged the top teams to make it appealing but only really benefited UEFA.

UEFA and FIFA especially but also the other regions versions are a self appointed governors if football that act like a cartel, one that each nations FAs are scared of and it's allowed them to fill their pockets at the expense of everyone else. Just look at how we got a World Cup in Qatar that gave no thought to the players, when they did it meant moving it to winter where it was still stupidly hot and the schedule impact for domestic leagues has seen injuries of players who went rise massively and they look about to repeat it by giving one to the Saudis. Then we have the pointless Nations League adding more matches and FIFA talking about adding a world nations league alongside the regional ones, UEFA taking about making the Euros every 2 years and the expanded club world championships. If it makes them more money (including backhanders) they don't care and anything that breaks up their monopoly and makes them have to be more considerate is actually a good thing

As a club that struggles to get beyond the first round of the F.A cup or rise above league 4 then I don't think a European super league would impact us that much really.......

To be fair though if UEFA and FIFA keep going unchecked it's going to impact you more and more as we will end up with a 128 team world cup being played in the middle east so has to be played during the season and you lose your leading goalscorer from Suriname for a month.
