He's having a great t20 blast. Averaging over 40, striker rate of 160 and still only 20. I was watching him today and he looks in that Buttler mould.
Think he'll go on to become a good white ball player.

Jimmy not fit for his home test, big blow. Wonder if we’ll see him for England again? Tbh I thought he might call it a day after the ashes.

Had some good banter with the Aussies today but, they had the last laugh. As ever some sloppy wickets in Burns and Stokes. Too easy a collapse after the fortunate Root on a decent surface. Around 60 runs for 5 wickets?

I agree on Archer looks a world class bowler already, think you’re getting a bit carried away with Curran though tbh, he did well today, but if the ball isn’t swinging he’s poor. I think Woakes has been poor tbh which is why Root has been reluctant to go to him, he’s good in ODI’s(like a lot of this team) but can’t think what he’s done in the Ashes to impress?
Batting wise we’re just far to inconsistent, We were let off by poor Australian fielding or we’d be behind in this test again. Buttler and Bairstow might be good with the gloves but now you need keepers who contribute with the bat, especially if you have two playing. Again neither have done anything really this series. The top 4 is a disgrace and we won’t get anywhere with them sorry to say, at least Australia have 2 out of the top 4 who stick around and constantly get runs.
Sorry to say I don’t share your optimism just because we’ve looked a bit better this game when the Ashes are already lost, this is the worst Australia team I’ve seen over on these shores, the only two truly class players on display are Cummings and Smith. The test team needs gutting and rebuilding. I’d start by bringing Foakes in, he did well in Sri Lanka. I’d stick with Burns as well at least for a bit. But I stick by this team is garbage, it won’t be the same 11 that starts the next test, and rightly so.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -
Bit harsh but understandable. Root is genuine class and would walk into any test side. Bairstow was the number 1 batsman in test cricket not so long ago. That's 2 decent batsmen and we have Stokes and Buttler who do ok. There's not many sides in world cricket with top class batting orders now. Is that as a result of T20 and the popularity of the one day game? Probably. But we're on a par with other test nations there. Our bowling attack is decent on home soil and ok abroad. Archer's genuine pace will cause anyone problems. I genuinely believe we'd have won this series were it not for Smith. Yes we only scraped home in the match he missed but that was after a freak 1st innings collapse that you'd hope wouldn't be repeated too often. Very rare a test nation makes such a low total.
