Certainly need to bat a lot better, bowling was class today though.
I’m not as confident about the ashes as I was about the World Cup. For all the arse kissing Strauss, Bailiss and Farbrace got our test side has been on the slide under them imo. The top 3 looks dreadful.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Idlebantam likes this. -

Operation 'Paper Over the Cracks' completed ruthlessly this morning.
But the Aussies will be a much sterner test.
Our batters need to get out of one day mode pretty damn quickly and start grafting for runs. What the feck was Root doing dancing down the pitch to a guy bowling at 82mph when he was ticking along nicely and we desperately needed him to hang around and anchor the innings? Crazy stuff in a test match. -

Our bowlers look very good going into the much anticipated Ashes series. In fact, we are spolit for choice for fast bowlers with Anderson, Broad, Curran, Woakes, Archer and Stone to choose from
The alarming lack of options for openers and no3 batsman is a big worry though.
Root has to move himself from 4 to 3 and select Roy at 4. Cannot see any big opening partnerships with Burns and Denley against the Aussie pace attack with the new ball, so the bulk of our runs will rest upon the shoulders of top middle order batsman Root, Roy, Stokes and Buttler.
Really looking forward to the series though, as much as any Ashes series with the old foe
