Should’ve brought Bowen on to run at ‘em. Both Foden and Saka were ineffective. Saka is a good player but predictably cuts inside onto his left every time. Bowen can do that, but also gets to the byeline and crosses with his right. And isn’t scared of using his speed and strength to just power past defenders. Millions of Tika taka passes weren’t working. The game was crying out for his kind of direct attacking style

That was a very poor performance from our cosseted multi millionaire footballers
We should have ripped them a new one playing the team Southgate intends to play in the euros
build confidence formulate a strategy of how we are going to break down a team who park the bus
Instead we switch the team about no idea why but his excuse of wanting to see how the fringe players perform is a nonsense he should have seen enough to play a settled side doubt whether 4 of last night's starting line up will start in Germany
The only thing we do consistently regardless who plays is pass the ball backwards and sidewards presumably hoping to pull defenders out of position or bore them to death either way it's not working nor pleasing on the eye
Time to move on Mr Southgate you should fit perfectly at Man U where strong rumours are he is going after the tournament
    Simply not good enough!!!!

I wouldn't take too much notice of the performance last night. It was essentially a pre season friendly and players will have only been at 70% and just going through the motions, trying not to get injured.

In the same way, when City get hammered by Farsley in the summer I won't get too down :eyes::eyes::joy:

We have the players, if only Southgate wasn't such a spineless turd.

The line up last night was very attacking. It's the players that didn't perform, not Southgate.

A semi final and a final out of the last two major tournaments?

    What exactly should we expect?

We've won one major tournament in our entire history, the same as Greece and Denmark so perhaps we need to lower those expectations slightly.

Or perhaps find a manager with a spine. We should have beaten Italy but he bottled it.

Agreed about Italy and maybe Croatia and whilst I'm no huge Southgate fan I think his record stands up better than any other manager since Sir Bobby.

Foden to me is a worry. I can't really think of an England game where he has stood out. I've said it before but I kind of feel the way Pep has his players play and the way he drills them so hard to fit that way that they often struggle to adapt to something else especially the forward players and especially when the style is almost polar opposite

Purely in looking at having reached a semi and a final, you're right. But when you look at the results within those tournaments, he's had an easy run and failed every time he's come up against a decent side. I can't think of a single occasion where he's dug out a result by outwitting a strong opponent. In fact, it's the opposite - a final with an early lead in our home stadium, and fluffed it. A world cup semi against a decent but hardly world class Croatia, early lead, fluffed it.

Hoddle and Venables were better, and England were better to watch. They genuinely had luck go against them.

Mate, he's spineless and his football style is turgid. I find it hard to even think about watching it, in fact I didn't bother with the Iceland game.
The sooner he buggers off to Man Utd the better. Don't ask me who I'd like to succeed him because I just don't have a clue.

We will go out in the group stage and Southgate will be gone it’s criminal the way he’s set up and set the tactics.

too defensive too risk averse he’s a guy who’s won nothing in his career and scared to lose.

hes not got the nads to instil an untouchable winning mentality which was there for the taking with the talent at his disposal

We'll get through the group stage but then be out in either the first knockout round or quarters.

We'll be one of the flops of the tournament.

His defensive selections are absolutely baffling. Appreciate his hand forced by injuries but when Shaw is injured, to not pick another natural left back is simply stupid.

The fact that pretty much every qualifier/friendly has had slabhead at centre back means we have nobody with any international experience to partner Stones now. For 2 years he picked slabhead when he was out of form and out of the Yanited team and now he has problems.

To take Dunk over Branthwaite and Tomori is also criminal.
