    I like them all and more importantly so do my kids.

    A place doesn't have to be 5 star luxury to visit and enjoy yourself as a family.

    Pleased about the Grand having a refurb, it's a beautiful building.
    Stayed there just for the experience once. It was so bad it was hilarious.

    I've just spent three nights staying in Runswick Bay. Lovely unspoilt place, as are Sandsend and Staithes. None of these places are dumps.
    Walking the coastal path is a lovely experience.

    Obviously sleeping rough on the beach gives you that impression
    Look at the prices of the main 2 seafront hotels that are fully booked
    Should tell you mostly what you need to know
    That softspot you mention must be in your head

    They will always be demand for the hotels at a seafront no matter where you go because most people don't have a seaview to wake up too every morning but it doesn't mean the place isn't a dump.

    I need better than that to convince me its not.
