To be fair I don't think he was ever IN the running for it. It was only paper talk that said he might be given an extended run.

 

Had a chat with O'Connor and made Caddis captain though. His rationale being we've been rubbish at the back and O'Connor can't defend and be captain at the same time, I think, not sure, it got a bit confusing.

 

Caddis is a defender too right?

Not trying to impress anyone at all. ive heard a story, im 90% certain its the truth but there is also the small chance it could be bollocks so for that reason i wont divulge.

It could also be that perhaps the fact he was chastised by some sections of the support for laughing at fans booing after the game on saturday has lead to the decision.

Even forgetting the above conjecture for a minute, do you think a coach who by his own admission is in charge for only one game and doesn't want the job, has decided upon himself to take the captains armband away from someone and hand it to a different player for the rest of the season ?

Possibly not but my second and third reasonings also add up to my original thoughts over there been more to the tale than is being said.

Like the original poster i replied to, had previously said, the reasoning given made no sense at all and went round in circles and ending up tying itself in knots.

The press conference stated, o'connor was tired, he had played a lot of games. we had had kept clean sheets with O'Connor in the team but that we had also conceded alot of goals, and that if all of a sudden he isnt captain, he wont have that burden of us conceding all on himself, so he can defend better, very odd.

 

i think what he means by that is that sometimes as a captain you can worry too much about what everyone else is doing that you don't concentrate on yourself as much as you should and sometimes the pressure can be too much. he sees caddis as being able to handle this better.

 

Yes but we have at least one better option than Chicksen in Wood.
