On Saturday stewards was brought to 3 fans in EXJ block who were drinking from a can I'm not sure if it was alcohol or not but the cans were conficated.

Lol, can't drink from a can, but people bring huge metal flasks in, and it's fine. Makes zero sense.

The whole drinking at football thing is out of date. If they actually thought about it, it's stupid.

It only seems to be football/rugby you don't see fans drinking, at other sporting evens its part of the occasion

My point was more that things can be pointed out to stewards, then they can deal with the situation, be it drinking or racial comments.

Been to a day long cricket county game Dave?
Essex v Yorks once at Ilford. The amount of drinking going on was bonkers.

The odd Sunday game at the old Canterbury Avenue ground and as you say it's all a part of the occasion especially if it's a very hot day.

I might have been there. I was an Essex CCC member back in the ‘70s before moving to Bratfud.

I use to love those warm days at the cricket when you could make a lovely picnic accompanied by beer and wine that you could take in your bag to headingley. Obviously that was stopped, it was far too enjoyable plus the big brewers wasn’t making any money.

I'm not a drinker when i'm at the football, never have been. But given the garbage we are being served recently on the pitch, I certainly wouldn't begrudge a fellow City fan of seeking medicinal help lol

Went to a few test matches in the late 80s/90s and we all took cool boxes full of bottles or cans. Never any trouble or inclinations of throwing them either football fans sometimes have themselves to blame for restrictions

Maybe the mods can move the unrelated posts to seperate "drinking at footie thread".

But in my opinion not being able to have a pint or alcohol at your seat is weird. And surely it makes it worse, folk go and get steaming before they get to the ground or their seat. Less time to drink means drinking quicker and piling it in.

There's no problem at gigs, theatre, cricket and even now non league football. Also on the continent you can take a drink to the stand.

Personally in all seater stadiums the last thing I want is folk up and down out of their bloody seats going to and from the bar and toilet. We'd always get it at the rugby league international games and it would do my head in, usually fans from Hull for some strange reason. Not so bad at grounds with standing where people are already stood up.

The old Heineken Cup Rugby Union matches were the best. You didn't have to move. They had blokes wandering around the stands with tanks of Heineken with a hose and nozzle on their backs, refilling your plastic glasses where you stood

Given how tight the seating is at VP, can you see someone trying to walk halfway along a row with two full pints in open plastic glasses?

Need the skills of a tightrope Walker.

Fellow fans getting beer spilt over them.

Wonder how much trouble that would cause!!

I have no need for over priced and in my opinion unpalatable fizz, to be served during the match.

Good grief you can drink before the game and at half time in the concourse. Are people really that desperate?

Quite happy to have a beer or two, pre match, in a pub, often with people l don’t sit with.

No need to drink watching the game, smokers seem to have adapted.

What next toilets with a view of the pitch, so you don’t have to leave your seat!

I think the current system works fine, I've been to games abroad where alcohol is available but personally I'm not that desperate for a drink that I either can't wait 90 minutes or choose to purchase a more enjoyable choice of drink than the rubbish on offer.
