Really pleased with this signing. Lost count of new signings now!
Let's hope Collins can gel all these new signings into a side that is capable of mounting a serious tilt at promotion

It’s been a long time since I saw so much praise and optermism from a summer transfer.
    God I hope they gel.

Can you imagine what our signings would have been like if people were actually willing to work with Edin?

Nah. Everyone hates him. Nobody in football wants anything to do with him. We're just having to pick up these dregs while he milks the club dry.

Or something like that I'm sure.

Very concerned about the lack of an experienced target man, and can't help but think the idea was simply to replace a goalscorer with a goalscorer - however, if we unveil a target man quite quickly, I'll be very impressed overall with recruitment.

The appointment of MC may have raised a few eyebrows, but he's got some talent to work with.

Has the potential of being my new ‘city player man crush’. Hasn’t been a replacement since Andrew Davies.

A target man can be tasked to do the dirty, unfashionable work that dolts don't appreciate.

It's not just a case of assisting their strike partner, or making space for them by sheer physicality and nuisance play, it's the critical role of allowing their entire team time, especially when under pressure.

Having a route one lump up front being an actual effective technique when play isn't going your way or you're making too many mistakes - that's a godsend.

A target man doesn't have to always score, as long as they prevent the ball coming straight back - whether that's flicking on to no one and wasting a few seconds and ensuring play starts from an even deeper line for the opposition, these things can be critical - and anyone understanding gamesmanship and what it takes to win when you're not necessarily the best team while covet these players.

There were a number of big defences that gave Charlie Wyke absolutely nothing last season; if Doyle doesn't have any protection, he'll get less.

You just need someone strong with a good touch. They don’t need to be tall or a target man in the mold I am presuming you want. Big fella hoping to flick it on is old school. If we got a sharp nimble character as well you will actually dumbfound a lot of managers and defences in this league as they have been brought up on the old school approach. As a defender give me predictable over two rats working the channels any day

There's no such thing as 'old school' - it's just an empty glib phrase.

I take your point, and even if Doyle and Miller work 90 % of the time, what I'm saying is, we need an experienced option (ie, NOT BRUNKER) that knows what they're doing for the rest of the time.

There will be games when our forwards get out-muscled. Then what?

There will be times when we're clinging desperately to a lead and just hoofing the ball anywhere. Then what?

I'm not saying you have to have a target man in the most pivotal of all roles, like Hanson was for Parky, but we'd be foolish to overlook that aspect of football in my opinion. It's just part of the game (unless you have £70m to spend on every individual player, in which case, you might not need that).

    ;)

If Brunker actually WON challenges instead of simply challenging, or even understood the game and how to waste time at critical points, maybe he could do a job - but, he can't, and he won't learn.

You can't coach a poor amateur player into a good pro, ultimately, at any age or any level.

Where did you copy that from and how can you get less than nothing?

Well less than nothing is called 'minus', it's actually a thing :)

So if you were going to consider how that might apply to football, and a lad gets 'nothing' from a defence, you might have a kind of neutrality - he doesn't win anything, doesn't necessarily lose anything, evening out to no real effect - which is what we saw with Wyke last season in certain games. It wasn't that he wasn't there, he just achieved nothing.

So a guy who achieves less than that, loses out virtually every time.

But that is not the point I'm trying to make, I was just a little surprised you couldn't see what that might allude to.

The question is, how does Doyle influence physical games when a more physical player couldn't do so effectively?

I don't think he will, so that's why we need that option.
