The conversation is about whether he starts or not. It's an absolute no from me.
Like I said, I have no issues with him getting a couple of minutes at the end of a game.
That's his level now. See games out.
But he poses no threat, and hasn't all season.

I said probably, which is probably right. He performed better than most of a massively underperforming squad, I hardly think that's an outrageous statement... all someone had to do was perform averagely to be outperforming most of that squad and he did.
And I think 'putting in a shift' and 'doing a job' when required is actually pretty important in a team sport, especially when you're struggling. Anyway, the discussion was about Clarke as a comparison to Donaldson and, whilst he's done his bit, he certainly hasn't done more than 'put in a shift' himselfJonButterfield likes this. -

When we played away it was all pre-ageeed pre season. Not sure there is any precedent for a mid season switch that hasn't been agreed before the start of the season, at this level anyway.

Does his lack of perceived mobility really matter if his role is to win possession up the field, hold the ball up for those around him that do have pace?
The Don always struggled when he was part of a team with no pace and players scared to win the ball from him and attack the opposition boxStop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Kevin1954 likes this. -

Point is, with Donaldson up front, we were heading to non league.
Luckily the management team saw that and addressed the problem.Keefly Bantam likes this. -

Obviously Donaldson isn't going to be starting games - unless we have an absolute disaster with injuries - but what an experienced player to have in our squad. I've been impressed with his calm head in the last few games when he's come on to help see out games. We can't underestimate that influence, it can be the difference between a win and a draw / draw - loss.
As for Clarke, he'd not be my first choice to start games given the form of our starting 11 at the moment but I'd not rule it out. He gives his all, looks after the ball and is a decent squad member.
Both players have a wealth of experience which I imagine other teams envy.Chippy likes this. -

Donaldson is in DMH territory for me. -

Donaldson up front was a genuine threat to our EFL status. Now I'm not saying by any means he was the only one, but what I will say is there is zero chance Donaldson is playing EFL football next season. By January, for me, coaching became (or should have become) Donaldson's main ambition. He's literally playing out a contract now.
I don't really have any issues with him getting 5 or 10 minutes here and there, but it's no coincidence that when we've made our changes in recent games we've been woeful.
Donaldson is not football league standard at this point in his career, and that's fair enough - like you say, he's had a tremendous career, fair play to him, no shame in getting to his age and no shame in the fact his legs have gone.
But to suggest he's still a useful player is mind-boggling to me. Sorry if that sounds hard-headed, but literally the second we stopped relying on players like Clayts and DMH, we started climbing the league table. Neither are/were good enough by a LONG shot. Clayton is only here because of his age and imminent retirement. -

Wasn't he at fault when Lavery had a chance to equalise?
I guess he did all right considering the rest of the team was flapping, like you say, but my goodness, I've never heard so much praise for a guy who is so badly past it.
The results we've had with him starting are the worst in the club's history.
