Remember: there was actually a suggestion of playing Clayton for this one.

    Lol.

    Really?

Donaldson is in DMH territory for me.

Can't even get close to agreeing with that. Donaldson has made some real positive impacts in games, DMH never even got close to contributing anything.

Cummon Jon. After Walsall scored on Saturday, we became nervous and very edgy. It was only when CD came on and used his experience to calm us down did we secure the points. A loss of 2 points would have been criminal in a game we dominated. I actually thought we should have conceded a pen but on seeing a replay, the ref got it right. That all said, I wouldn't start CD. If we need him, he is now better to come on when the defenders are tiring.

Bloody hell Jon I often agree with quite a lot of what you say but this is baffled me**so funny

DMH should only be compared to someone like Bruenker, neither should have made professional appearances.

Donaldson has over 500 career appearances, many in league 1 and the championship. His legs have gone but he’s still scored 4 this season and I believe he’s our second top scorer in all comps, plus he’s run his body into the ground every game when it was obvious he needed a rest. Bit of an insult to the bloke in my opinion to be compared to an obvious amateur.

I'm glad Trueman and Sellers do the team talks and not us lot. I'll bet they rate Donaldson and Clarke a lot more highly than we do and to be honest it's just as well with run of games we've got coming up. We are going to need them all whether we think they are past it or not.

I feel I've stumbled into an alternate reality when one of the main reasons we were heading towards non league has been forgotten because we've hit form.

Donaldson up front was a genuine threat to our EFL status. Now I'm not saying by any means he was the only one, but what I will say is there is zero chance Donaldson is playing EFL football next season. By January, for me, coaching became (or should have become) Donaldson's main ambition. He's literally playing out a contract now.

I don't really have any issues with him getting 5 or 10 minutes here and there, but it's no coincidence that when we've made our changes in recent games we've been woeful.

Donaldson is not football league standard at this point in his career, and that's fair enough - like you say, he's had a tremendous career, fair play to him, no shame in getting to his age and no shame in the fact his legs have gone.

But to suggest he's still a useful player is mind-boggling to me. Sorry if that sounds hard-headed, but literally the second we stopped relying on players like Clayts and DMH, we started climbing the league table. Neither are/were good enough by a LONG shot. Clayton is only here because of his age and imminent retirement.

I think you are losing the plot and the argument. I think you are probably right about this being Clayton's last season but to say he is no longer any use to us as a squad player is just plain silly. And to mention him in even the same sentence as DMH is crass.

You can say I lose the argument, but what actually changes? If everybody thinks Clayton is useful, more power to you all. He's unlikely to ever start a professional football game ever again.

    He's also very, very poor.

He won't be starting against Mansfield either!

It's not what you are I think that matters. T&S decide who starts or who comes on as a substitution, it's who they rate that matters.

I guess the hypothetical question is, had both KG and CD still been at the club, who would have got on the pitch late on as a substitute?

    Tough one.

Possibly Clayton starting with Guthrie off the bench?

Guthrie has scored 0 in 8 for Port Vale. That’s 0 in 18 combined with his tenure with us.

Can’t believe we were relying on that bonehead for goals

So what? That doesn't make him in DMH territory. Nor does it mean he can't play a very useful squad role for the rest of the season. Which is why T&S keep putting him on the bench.
Donaldson showed more control, nous and useful touches in ten minutes on Saturday than DMH has in his entire Bradford City career. He settled us down and re-established control when we were flapping badly.
It's insulting to suggest that he's sunk to the level of a player who never looked like a FL pro player.
