So tomorrow I'm taking my friends 8 year old kid to his first ever football game. He got really into the world cup this year and wanted to see a live game, his parents aren't footie fans so I offered to take him.

I feel a bit a weight of responsibility about this. Tomorrow's game could shape his future football allegiances, he may grow up to support Barnsley! League one may not have the same excitement of England finally winning a shootout!

Question is do you remember your first proper game? Was it city? Did anything stick in your mind?

Mine was late 80s possibly vs Plymouth and I honestly remember very little about it but knew I wanted to go again. I also decided my favourite player was Abbo!

My first game was Cardiff City v Southampton in 1978. Alan Ball and Mick Channon were in the Southampton team. Remember how big Ninian Park felt.

I was 7 years old. Went to a few more games then moved to Bradford the following year, and I really did attend the Hereford game in 1979.

First game was a friendly, possibly against Donny or Rotherham, or somebody of that ilk, it wasn’t very memorable...The first game I can actually remember was the 1989 3-1 win over Everton in the League cup. I was hooked after that.

Torquay at home 76, went to the Lido in Manningham Park and a dozen mates and I walked down to the game after, towels, swimming trunks in hand. Red hot and a win, hooked. Happy days.

1963. Arsenal 3 Everton 0. I was 6 yrs old. My Uncle Bill took me. He and my mum were big Arsenal fans. We went to a cafe beforehand and I had cheesecake (the proper baked New York kind) for the first time.
We stood on the uncovered Clock End. Joe Baker scored twice and I think George Eastham got the other. As a result I was an armchair Gooner for the remainder of my childhood (through the double-winning era of early 70s) but never went to Highbury again. Too difficult to get to from Grays and I had no money and no one to take me.

Then I started work in 1974 and went out with a girl who was a regular on the Chicken Run at Upton Park. @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander will remember that stand. I started going with her and got hooked on the live football experience. Without intention I quickly found my allegiance switch to The Irons because I was watching them regularly. I was an Upton Park regular until I came up north to Bradford United in 1980.

My first City match was an evening FA Cup replay at VP against Man Utd in the 80/81 season. I went with several of my student mates and we sat in the old wooden stand that later burned down. I don't remember much about the game other than United won and Ces Pod and Joe Cooke played for City. I wonder if @Bronco@Bronco, @Park bantam@Park bantam or any of the other older forum members remember the details of that game better than I do.

First game was Barnsley funnily enough. Think it was 1967... Banny scored with an overhead kick in front of the Bradford End.

1911 FA Cup final. Got a ticket off a mate who lent me his priority card as he couldn’t afford to go due to booking trip on the Titanic. His name was Jack.
I’ve had that priority card ever since as I never saw him again. Came in useful for the Chelsea game.

Funnily enough I have little recollection of my first couple of seasons, nevermind the First game. My dad deemed me old enough to start going in the 1966-7 season
However, the first vivid recollection I have is of a game at Valley Parade in the 1968-9 season against Southend when we came from 2 down to win 3-2 on our way to promotion clinched at Darlington a week or so later
That was the night that the bug really caught hold of me

In fact it was 82/83 because McFarland walked out between the home and away matches

My first time was 1981 on my mums settee whilst invasion of the body snatchers film was on.

My first match was the Tottenham cup game in 1970 but I can’t remember much.
