With McMahon gone (effective up to December ) and Mcarten yet to live up to the reputatiion for free kicks albeit he has failed to cement a regular place in the team to date - who have we within the squad to play this important role?
Having players with this attribute is key to success /survival especially at home when we find it difficult to break teams down.

McMahon was shit at corners anyway. Wouldn’t know a good delivery if it smashed him in the face. The only reason he had so many assists over his time here is because he literally took all the set pieces. Law of averages dictates he’s bound to get a few right when taking so many.

TBF - In addition to Wright, I'd like to see Chicksen and Robinson given an opportunity. Both can cross whilst on the move - so why not a 'dead ball' situation ? :)

Irrelevant I'd say as any professional footballer should be able to strike a non moving football.

Nah - Sorry, I respectfully disagree.

As a former Winger there's some science to it ...........
Distance, required pace, winds and temperature to mention just four factors to consider - not to mention you just don't whack it and hope ! ;)

But they can't. Or at least not all as well as the many regular set piece takers we see.

It's like saying all professional footballers should be able to play with the other foot. They can't, end of story.

An' the MAIN ingredient ? .............. Do not race ahead, head down, and cross into an empty penalty area, or cross into 'deadmans land' from a dead ball !! On either foot. :D

Problem was during his absence for what ever reason around December- I do not recall us causing the opposition a lot of problems around their goal from dead ball situations. So no one really stepped up - we can only hope we have one in the new recruits.

Except Dom Poleon who couldn't strike any type of ball.

And I respectfully disagree with your disagreement. I never played football at any decent level. Sunday morning football against pub sides in and around the Keighley area was the best I managed.

And as a diminutive player, I took the free-kicks and corners. I always used my right-foot (my left is only used for balance). Obviously corners from the right were out-swingers and when I took them from the left, they were in-swingers. But my corners were always played fast and hard to the near post or around the penalty spot for our players good at attacking the ball witht their heads, would benefit.

If I could deliver consistently, a professional footballer shouldn’t have any problems. Obviously the weather does make a difference, which is why I would fire the ball in to the near post on those wet and windy Sunday mornings

But the fact remains that McMahon wasn’t in the team taking set-pieces, so to say nobody else had any chance is wrong.

Fair enough, and each to his own, bud. :)
I spent much of my early teens trying to master the 'art' of crossing a ball. I didn't do too bad. ;)

If crossing a ball and scoring from it was so easy then the average of goals from corners would be a lot higher than 3%. You also won't have played against teams who've spent hours and hours on the training ground planning on how to defend them, you could put them all near post as teams would never work you out as they won't scout you but every corner will be analysed in professional football. if whoever took all our corners to the near post teams would cotton onto it early on and put their best headerers of the ball there. It's like in sunday league your penalty taker would hit the ball in the same place nearly every time as the keeper had no idea what they've done in but a professional player can't do that as keepers know where you placed all of your penalties.
If it was as easy as you make out then Beckham would never have needed to practice his set pieces as much as he did.
