The report of how a young police officer was brutally murdered in the line of duty.
My question? What would you see as fit and proper punishment?
And while we're on the subject its about time 17 year olds stopped having their names withheld due to age especially in such a heinous crime as this. They ain't children.

I would hang the scum, but of course that isnt going to happen

They will no doubt serve a few years instead of getting life.

Strap the little shits to the back of a car and take a drive... again not going to happen.

I guess it will be pinned down on 1 who will serve 10 years, and a couple of years each for the other 2. Same old story

Could possibly see them named at sentencing if found guilty? Happened before.

I do think they will have the book thrown at them for this.

And rightly so, I can't imagine what his body must have been like after being dragged a mile at speeds of 40 mph, there are some evil people out there, so sad for those dear to him.

I know someone who’s in the military police that attended the scene. That BBC link posted is heavily watered down, and for good reason.

They’ll definitely get the book thrown at them if found guilty.

The killing of police officer should incur a very heavy penalty. But this case is different to the killing of Sharon Beshenivsky in Bradford, the robbers were on an armed robbery and chose to kill her in cold blood. They deserve life IMO, no parole.

These were kids stealing a quad bike, already a huge difference and it all went wrong probably in a blind panic. It was night and in an unlit area, nobody can be sure what they knew or saw. But they are responsible for his death and deserve heavy sentences, 10 years?

Starting point if found guilty of murder for 17 and under has to be life with minimum of 12 years served.

I do think if found guilty they are looking at around minimum 20 with it being a serving police officer

Agree the sad thing about this case is they were stealing a quad bike if they already had a criminal record they might have been sent down or they may have had another outcome community service etc, but unfortunatly they took the wrong option and killed an innocent man, an off duty policeman ? and as others have said they should have the book thrown at them because it was a policeman they killed.
I agree Idle they can't have not heard this poor mans screaming as his body was being dragged along at 40 mph for approx a mile.

Maybe & hopefully he was unconscious very quickly, nobody knows, I prefer not to imagine the worst. But they were very young, teenagers up to no good but not going out to hurt anybody, they panicked, and the policeman becoming entangled was just plain freakish. The 18 year old pleaded guilty and yes, I do think the 17 year old should be named. Completely different the Sharon Beshenivsky murder.

PC Harper was responding to reports of theft, Sharon Beshenivsky was responding to reports of a robbery. Both the poor police officers ended up being killed. Not quite as different as you think really.

Being teenagers is no excuse either, I am sure street wise gypsy boys knew exactly what they were doing

Unfortunately today there is no respect for authority or for human life for that matter sentences should be extremely harsh to try and deter others.
We have become far to soft as a nation worrying about perpetrators and not enough about the victims

Easy answer to that is the death penalty but our pathetic society would go apeshit. Let's just give them 8 years let them out after 4 instead :grinning::thumbup:
