CRAWLEY SCRAMBLING FOR OPPONENT AGAIN
Crawley Town's struggle to arrange friendly matches for their training camp in Murcia next week does not bode well for their first full season under new owners, cryptocurrency investors WAGMI United.
The League Two club suffered embarrassment on Friday when they announced a game against Qatar Sports Club only to cancel it a few hours later on the grounds that the fixture did not align with their political values.
Crawley are now seeking their third set of opponents for a training game after their owners scrapped a planned match against Bradford due to the fallout from their failed takeover bid for the Bantams last season.Stop hovering to collapse... Crawley planning to bring about £4m in to the club (less expenses) after selling 12,000 of their 3rd kit on Friday for £335 each.
TBF for that you also get a hat and scarf and free tickets to "some" home matches, "special input" on the future of Crawley Town FC, a bunch of online content type stuff and the promise of more unspecified things in the future!
BTW, the season tickets cost less than that. -

Hearts fans are underwhelmed that Crawley are their pre-season opponents at Tynecastle next week. In the past they have hosted Barcelona and Manchester City.

I just posted this BBC link on another thread (which I can't find now!). I think we dodged a bullet!

Sadly you know the end result ............. the new owners will be interested for a bit realise that this isn’t gonna be as at all ............. will leave the club millions of pounds in debt and another community loses a football club

Oh dear!
Talking points:
- Fans are frustrated with the performance of the club
- Acknowledged mistrust of the fans
- Club was not run sustainably, and was losing over £1 million per year
- Club was nearly £2 million in debt when WAGMI took over
- Unpaid debts stretched back 4 years
- Club's credit is so bad that they couldn't get a third party creditor to rent vehicles for £300 a month - had to buy vehicles outright in cash
- Invested a 'significant amount' in infrastructure to make the club professional and on a solid financial footing
- Progress will cost more money, so looking at new streams of revenue to make the club sustainable and stable
- Fans unimpressed with the 'Sidemen' friendly
- Sidemen friendly apparently established potential links for sponsorship and new exposure
- Fans: "Who cares Preston, we're not winning on the pitch"
- There's no excuse for underperformance and WAGMI won't accept it
- Preston will fly to the UK early (sound like Rupp to you?) -

They're just one of many teams in the lower leagues who are overachieving former non-leaguers with tiny grounds and a tiny following.
How do these clubs afford a competitive team with 2,000 fans?
Something's got to give somewhere, and it's almost certainly going to be the balance sheet.
In that regard, I don't think Crawley can claim they're underperforming. -

Even if they suddenly became successful there wouldn't be a change. Like Salford, 107 fans they took to Northampton for what was a 3rd v 5/6th game. What is the end game for these clubs? They aren't going to get any bigger. -
Is anybody still pining for Wagmi to buy us? Matt Etherington has jumped ship after barely a month (3 games) and they've just sold their best player. They're following Oldham and Bury etc down the basket case route.
-
It may still work out for them but sadly I just think it’s another club that will be torn to shred by clueless owners and the poor sods who have followed them for years will be left to pick up the pieces ....................it may happen once in a while. (Bournemouth) but a lot of the time it tends to end up going badly
