What I like about Cook is how his all round games has improved. The way he holds up and shields the ball is great whilst his laying off of the ball is miles better. He also doesn’t half bully his marker, turning them at will, whilst making the ball stick to his feet a lot better than earlier in the season. This allows him to hold the ball whilst waiting to bring his team mates into play on the break, or, get a shot off/goal.

Also, not that penalties are any less of a goal, but Cook has only had 3 pens this season whereas Wells scored 6 of them.
So Cook has 24 goals from open play so far, really is some going that. Phenomenal season!Bronco, bantamdave41, Onside and 4 others like this. -

He has been phenomenal.
What an inspiration it must be to the rest of the team knowing you have someone like Cook leading the line.
Very different players, but I think the comparison with Wells is fair. Both have the ability to create goals themselves, through their own persistence and skill.Stop hovering to collapse... Golden boot winner and first EVER City player to end the season as the division's top scorer.

Yesterday he was winning more headers that were pumped up to him. I noticed that he was more able to direct them to Banks, Walker and Chapman, as they were closer to him. Much improved by Cook, but also the line of three who are around him. Not just goal or assists, but also the build up play. Gets better by the match.

So, if we are off down memory lane with Wells, i see Cook has the mighty Dean Windass 27 goals 04/05 for company and Lee Mills 24 goals in the magical 98/99 season;
Can he do 30 goals and I started watching/suffering in 1977 but cannot think of anyone achieving that.

Just seen another incredible stat. Cook has finished joint highest scorer across all 3 divisions of the EFL, along with Chuba Akpom. Not only that, he's also the highest goal contributor across all 3 divisions.
Still think he's shite Fordy?Bronco likes this. -

If I read the stats right, Cook has already played more minutes this season than Wells did the entire 12-13. Any more astute statistician able to verify this?
Not taking anything away from Cook. I’ve given my opinion on where I think his ability lacks, but we be nowhere near competing at the top end of the table if it weren’t for him - simple as that.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -
That said, if we really open the discussion of comparison, it’s Wells all day for me. He was a different class and every time he played I always felt we had a game changer on our side, destined for bigger things. That’s no discredit to Cook who has been absolutely outstanding this season.
TBH, there’s not many/any of the current starting XI I would put ahead of the 12-13 season, with the exception of Harry Lewis.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...
