The Christmas market is always a good visit there. It took a lot of vision to get it to work and at first it was a struggle to sell it to a larger audience but the artists and bands they've had on there over the years has been of a very high calibre and most of them come away singing its praises as a very unique venue. When the wind blows right i can hear the music clear as day at my house, i could pick out the songs when New Order were playing.

Labour has been in sole control of Bradford Council since 2010. Are you seriously suggesting that the place was vibrant and thriving before then? It’s been on its knees for most of the time since I came here in 1980, including the years of Tory control under Pickles.

But, of course, the period since 2010 exactly coincides with the period of massive cuts to the council budget by successive Tory governments.

How do you feel about the labour council that's turned it into the "shithole" though?

I mean, he wasn't wrong was he.

Labour aren't in power and don't hold the treasury.

It's a smart ploy to cut council budgets then point fingers for overspending.

If we think Tory governments supplying Labour councils is an honest relationship, surely were just kidding ourselves.

While an opposition council could theoretically undermine a government, the government in power should still take overall responsibility, but we know that's not the name of the game.

Rule your country, but pretend the failure of leadership isn't the problem of the overall rulers.

I suppose some people will buy it.

Bit like the migrant crisis the Tories are somehow claiming isn't their own direct failure after a decade dealing with it.

Have a look at the list of live music they've had there recently. Bradford haven't had a list like that in the last 20 years!

I think you're a few years out with that. Wardley and Co were way before the 70's
Saying that bfd was still a fairly strong city in the 70's, but the demise since then has been heartbreaking tbh and the reds will blame the blues and the blues will blame the reds. It's part of the reason progress is difficult, each side just cancels out the other with constant blame and counter blame. Never mind what's best for the city/country it's political point scoring that holds back progress and you even see it regularly on here where there's no middle ground with some folk and it's reflected in the leadership of the city/ country, it's depressing to see.

Yet Bradford has been administered by a useless Labour led council for many years and they are the ones who have turned us into the s**thole it has become. So don't tell me Labour care about us.

It's bars and nightlife are really good as well outside of the live music events. It has it's own version of the Record Cafe in Loafers too, vinyl and beer!! Some great independent bars in Meandering Bear and Grayston Unity right on it's doorstep too.

I'm absolutely not championing either side, I don't believe that any political party would make any meaningful changes to the City regardless of who is in control of the council, or indeed parliament.

We've been truly left to rot and even Halifax with the money invested in piece hall has over taken us as a more desirable destination.

Politicians don't care about any of us 'plebs'. They constantly lie to us, heck they don't even try and hide it these days.

I've been plenty of times as a resident of Halifax, its a great place to visit. Now becoming one of the most desirable music venues in the country in the summer season. leadership and vision have brought this about, something seriously lacking in Bradford with its utterly useless council, they'd have bulldozed the Odeon if they had got their way.

It's not, it's also used as a drinking venue with lots of independent bars and for lots of varied shows and events. It's a great multi purpose venue.

It's also all been implemented by a labour run council so it should definitely meet your approval.

Fair enough. I rarely go to Halifax. I’ve only ever called into Piece Hall when I’ve happened to be in the area for other things - like visiting Eureka with the grandson - and it’s always been dead. I always though it was meant primarily as a shopping venue, hence my disappointment. My mistake.

It was a while ago, but we really enjoyed something called the Halifax Happening at the Piece Hall, well over a decade ago, possibly nearer 2 decades, the place had just been refurbished. Humphrey Littleton and his band played live. We took my Mum and Dad who remembered seeing Humph several decades earlier. Sadly Humph and my parents are no longer with us, but we remember it as a grand day out.

Actually wasn't it the Tory council of the 70s who tore down the arcades installed mass concrete and failed to replace the industry we lost to overseas in the same way Leeds did? If we want to look at history and how we got here we can't forget that can we. It's not as though twenty years ago Bradford was a beacon of light

People running with left and right wing narratives regarding the demise of Bradford are completely missing the point completely. Bradford didn't decline because of a Tory Government or a labour led council, it declined because like most Northern towns and cities it lost the reason that made it big in the first place, namely prospective fabric manufacturers that made the city of Bradford what it is post the industrial revolution. But you can trace the demise of Bradford to as far back as world war one times. Fact is once those mill owners had gone to pastures new it was the beginning of the end. And because of its geographical location and also being right next door a better located city in Leeds, it couldn't reinvent itself as anything else other than a dumping ground for waifs and strays. No amount of money will ever change that.

No one is ever building a new station or new rail roads in the centre of Bradford. It would be a complete waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere. Or maybe not with this government or our completely useless council.
