Just watched it again. It's worse than I thought!

The fourth official is 10 yards away, looking straight at it.
Linesman on that side too, he can't be 15 yards away.

And standard. Beags was far better, but as a kid I loved watching Donnny Donny Donny Donny Hutchins on our wing, on our wing. And Big Joe battering centre halves.

If only Oliver had half the aggression and attitude of Big Joe.

Best memory of Don…. Norwich away in the much postponed FA cup game at Carrow Rd. Still got the program. Two special trains from Forster Square, ran I think by Patsy?

Two things strike me about those highlights. 1. That is never a penalty in a million years, Angol feels a very slight contact and bottles the shot by throwing himself down. Should have been a second yellow.
    2. The free kick he gives away is very similar and he's unlucky that it's given as a foul. Cox goes down like a rebel soldier dodging the sacking of Savanna.

Conclusion is if the ref had done his job properly and given Angol a second yellow we would have a point because he's not on the pitch to give away the free kick.

That's like saying if MH didn't bring him on as a sub we would have got a point.

Bottom line is we should have defended better and Angol shouldn't have been an idiot.

It isn't because the fact is, Hughes did bring him on. Regardless of whether you think it should have been a penalty or whether you think it should have been a second yellow for Angol, the point is that it should have been one or the other but the ref gave neither. Had he done his job correctly, like USG says, the result of the game would have probably been either a win for us or at worst, a draw.

Think what you want. If he had been sent off, as he should for simulation, he wouldn't have been on the field to concede that free kick. That's a fact.

Spot on. Angol went down, so it was either a penalty or he dived. There's no grey area in this because he's clear of the defender, it's not a 50/50 tackle and there is no ambiguity. It's either a penalty or a dive, and to me it looks more and more like a dive every time I watch it.

Dont forget we saw the incident from a different angle. We were looking at the incident live with both players at 90 degrees to our eye line, the defender following Angol. The TV camera is from the reverse. A trip imho from the angle City fans viewing it live. Which fully explains why in the Prem, they see things like this from multiple angles . No 1 question why would Angol dive , according to the ref, when through on goal?? The ref, throughout the evening bottled it and gave completely inconsistent decisions always favouring the home side. He was dreadful no question.
Non of this is an excuse for our defeat, but he sure as hell was abysmal.

I thought so to, bet he wouldn't have gone down that easy if his touch hadn't been to pass the ball to the defender with the goal at his mercy.

I don't think it was a dive as such, as I'm sure there was contact. However, it did look as though he went down too easily, when staying on his feet was the better option.

No we don't, but I think there is a fair chance the outcome of the game would have been different had the ref made a decision one way or the other instead of doing nothing. That said, I agree with Kev that it doesn't excuse the defeat and had we been more clinical earlier on instead of fannying about in possession, we wouldn't even be having this debate.

Simple. Ref send him off and he's not on the pitch to concede the freekick. ref gives a penalty and we score it, we more than likely win. Miss it and the ball never gets to to the same position for Angol to give away the freekick because there is zero chance that the pattern of play would have been the same.

It's exactly the same as crossing the road at one point in time and getting taken out, or crossing it ten seconds later and not. Fate.

Whichever way you look at it, that incident changed the last two minutes of the game.

Tbh i thought there was a similar amount of contact for the pen claim and the fee kick Angol gave away, very minimal in both instances. But that’s football, we know how shit refs are just take it out of their hands and then we don’t need excuses.
