I think he likes to play Angol there because he protects the ball well and takes the pressure off cook a bit. It’s good to have healthy competition really like the look of Young but he looks to be down the pecking order a bit

Was just reading the reaction from Colchester's manager to their 1 nil loss to Stockport.

"we tried to be solid and force them down the wings believing we could handle anything that came into the box" or similar, was what he said.

Ultimately, it didn't work because they lost to a header! But anyway, it tells us that we're going to need to have some pace on and think about breaking down another "solid" team. They've only got one point from nine but the two losses were from a single goal.

Going back to the match day squad, I don't see why it's 9 on the bench in the Premier league but only 7 in the EFL. It's 5 subs in both so why the difference in bench numbers?

 

They were away yesterday are we saying they are will try and shut up shop at home?

 

EFL decision

The EFL has announced a return to five substitutes for the 2022/23 season – but the matchday squads will remain at 18.

The changes were introduced for the Project Restart matches in 2020 and then continued for the 2020/21 campaign.

There was a return to five substitutes in 2021/22, but that will change again ahead of the upcoming season.

However, the squad size will remain at 18, having previously been 20 when five substitutes were permitted.

 

Did they offer an explanation as to why? Seems odd when it was previously 20.

 

Most of them can afford massively high paid “ benches” , so they don’t want to downgrade the Premiership “ brand”.

 

Not sure of the rationale TBH, but it is Rick Parry and the EFL so nowt should surprise you.

 

I would not mind a repeat effort from colchester, yesterday they managed 27% possession and zero shots on target- very derek adams style footy but i guess they will want to bounce back with something better.
They have Hornby in goal as well.

Your correct when Hughes came in he did prefer Angol but after reading Cook honesf admission with regards his physical condition Hughes would have been aware especially with the backroom staff who would have Cooks situation well documented.

 

I thought Angol did fine on the left. A couple of nice bits of skill. Did his job defensively.
He made some good runs inside, one resulting in the 1 on 1, which went wide and the other in the first half the ball wasn't delivered from midfield.
If Angol or Young on the left is one of our main worries, we'll be up there.

 

I thought we did not involved enough knowing what attributes he possesses and the way he reacted when not getting the ball certainly in the first half so was he.

 

Although I don’t miss a game , you cant beat live. Son , daughter and two grandsons. Just like old times. The grandsons may find it a weird experience because they are only used to the choir stalls of the Emirates.

Hughes wont want a repeat performance like we did at their place last season. Think we will win quite easily.

 

That’s was deliberate team selection by MH for the purposes of who can cut it for this season . A number of players were used who were only on the fringes of the squad. The only one to come out of it well was Kellherer. Thelkeld was subbed off at half time he was that poor.
