Very brief highlights on 'The Big Match' from 31.06
This was supposedly City's fastest own goal on record, but was it an own goal? I was at this match and always thought it was an own goal, but having watched the replay I'm not so sure. Either way, it was a defensive mess.

I remember an own goal at VP when we played Southport in the league game.

Charlie Rackstraw passed back to John Roberts (I think the names are correct) from the half way line.

As JR bent down to collect the "tepid" pass back it hit a divot and bounced over the GK head and into the net.

The game ended at 3-3 from memory.

Just looked on 11v11 it was 1967.

I know it was a night match.

We`d already been promoted the previous week against Bournemouth so the result didn`t matter to us, was on the pitch after clinching promotion at VP as an excited 10 year old ! Great memories

I didn't go to Colchester that season, however I remember the home fixture.
We were both flying high so a real four pointer.
They were very cynical and kicking us off the pitch. Big JC got the ball ran into the penalty area and bent one round the keeper towards the Kop end. Finished one nil.
