I thought I'd make this a standalone post. Here is what I have for City's scorers of 3 or more goals in a recognised first-team match, ordered by date. It is a long list. So far, 67 different players have combined for 123 3+ goal matches. Most hat-tricks+, with 6, is Jack Deakin. Most goals in a match is Whitehurst's 7. Fastest has been Goodman's 3 in 8 minutes, but I only have goal times for my own records (and even then am missing one match). No one has yet got a hat-trick in penalties, though Ingram, Abbott, and Williams came close with 2.

Data from my own records from 88/9 onwards; prior to that, data drawn from Frost's season pages. I hope I haven't introduced any errors with the copying and reformatting!

Nice one RCB. Let's hope you have more to add to the list before the end of the season.

80-81 Harry Green. We always knew him as Rodney, I’m sure.

    Edit

    Just checked
His middle name was Rodney and used it himself as opposed to Harry.

Agreed. I think I've had/still have a few players like that in my files, for whom something other than the formal first name was used, but I have the formal name. I know I've even confused myself with that!

In the game against Bournemouth on 24.1.70 we were 6-0 up at halftime. I'm pretty sure Bobby Ham scored a hat-trick in the first half. The visitors had a 16 year old keeper making his debut. He was repaced at the interval and we won 8-1.

Correct Dubois. As a primary school kid, fairly new to supporting City through my Dad and Grandad, I thought this is what happened every week! A joy of a day...and then I quickly discovered over the coming seasons...and years...and decades.. that this was one of our rare City hay days. But hope springs eternal! Stevenage was the most exciting game I've seen us play for a goodly long while.

Cheers! I'll make a note that it was a first-half Ham-trick, unless someone can authoritatively say otherwise, and also remember to adjust Green's name, as per @Kevin1954@Kevin1954 . In due course I'll replace the list in the OP with the updated version.

According to the book 'A Season Re-visited 1969-1970', Ham's goals were in the 24th, 34th and 43rd minutes, a 19 minute hat trick.

Bournemouth's starting goalkeeper was Tilsed and he was replaced by Simmons.

When I was a little kid I remember sitting on the pavement watching Bobby Ham and the rest of the team walking into VP on a match day. I hadn't realized he was so tiny - and he was wearing a copper colored bri-nylon roll neck shirt. But to me he looked like a God. A couple of weeks earlier he'd scored one of the goals that gave us a totally unexpected 2-2 draw against Tottingham Hotspur in the FA Cup third round. Listened to the full match radio commentary the following week in the replay when we lost 5-0 and was in tears. As you do. As a kid. And hey, now and again since with City as an adult.

I knew Bobby as an acquaintance in later life and he was still wearing those polo neck jumpers. His son, Richard, lives about 80 yards from my house.

I thought Bruce Bannister's hat-trick against Wrexham must have been in our 7-1 FA Cup victory but I see that that was on 9 December 1967, a couple of weeks later. In that game the Wrexham players became increasingly annoyed with the ref, as well as being soundly thrashed, and it all boiled over when City were given a free kick, just outside the area in the D. Almost the whole Wrexham team, including the keeper, rushed towards the ref to protest and he retreated to the corner of the box. With them all surrounding him he blew his whistle for the kick to be taken and we just passed it into the empty net. A priceless memory.
