Don't be a boring get.
Storing up wonderful memories is an essential part of life, and this was right up there with the best.

 

I wrote this a few years ago about my experience. My Uncle kindly posted it on C&B 2 years ago so I thought I'd post it here too if anyone is interested.

I've had some good away days following city but this beats them all hands down, I remember saying to my old man in the 1st half "we're playing well here" there was just a buzz in the ground a wierd feeling that something was gonna happen, even at 2 down I thought we were still in it, we were playing that well, then up steps Stead and the rest is history, unreal day I will never ever forget!!

 

What a day. I'll never forget the family party I went to, then stared at my phone for two hours...

 

As you say, all of the goals were terrific. But for me it's the last one. So many good aspects. The way Yeates' plays it in to Stead's feet and just keeps on running in, knowing that Stead will get it back to him. The way Stead holds it for just long enough to get Yeates in position and then squirts out a sublime pass with backspin on, which Yeates' then dinks over the keeper. It's poetry in motion!

did we break Mourinho? Never really had that invincible aura for long after that
Before Tyson lost to Buster Douglas he looked invincible, he did come back after that but never had the same feeling about him, same with Mourinho after us.

Thoughts?

 

Everything about that day was magical. I doubt there will be another to beat It, although I live in hope. I occasionally watch it back again. For about three weeks afterwards I watched it every day!

It tops Villa away for me. Probably because Villa were on a poor run of form and so I quietly believed, from the evidence of the home leg, that we'd finish on top.
But there was no single molecule of me that thought we'd get anything other than a severe thrashing at Chelsea, let alone score four and beat them by two goals. To be the only team to win at Stamford Bridge all season; to do what teams in the Champions League couldn't do, still astonishes me just thinking about it.
That second half is by a country mile the best and most unlikely half of football I've ever been at, and I can't really imagine what would top it.

Can never decide which goal I liked best. All 4 were great. Stead with a great strike, Morais at the back post right in front of the city fans, Halliday banger or the lovely hold up ply by Stead and great finish by Yeates. What a game.

 

It was a retirement celebration so a hard one to call. We sailed from Southampton to Brisbane. We might have had to postpone it until the following year

 

Last game for Chelsea...Mourinho then flogged him to Fiorentina on loan

 

Just behind Villa away,I say just. then Weeds at home cheers Billy. I had up until then never see us beat the weeds.
