I am not clear as to why we seem so regularly to run out of steam in this fundamental area as regularly as we do.
I am only using Callum Cooke, Elliott Watt and Levi Sutton as our regular players in this role.
Does anyone know what the running stats, of these three in particular, look like in comparison with other Div 2 midfield units?
I would like to clarify whether we are unreasonable in our expectation to be fit enough to get through 90+ mins in this division without blowing up around 65 minutes.
I have a couple of questions to ask but would like to see some comparisons before making any points.
Hope someone out here is better at finding these details than me.

Simple. Players who aren't good enough or have the drive for a top seven team and lack ideas on how to get a grip on a game. I remember us being two down at Sheff United and Gary Jones taking a total grip of midfield to turn it into a draw. That's what we lack. If only Stuart were 25 years younger.

Not individual stats, but here is the link to the XG formula. https://footystats.org/england/efl-league-two/xg If you look at it, amazingly City are the club most likely to score, yet it is not coming to fruition.

On Tuesday, we were in effect beaten within the first minute, were not able to score (despite XG stats) when we were fresh and as the game dragged on became fairly ragged.

Cooke is regularly in the top two metre makers in the team, always over 10k a match. Our problems are nothing to do with fitness or lack of effort, it's the balance of a very weak recruited squad. Makes players look worse than they actually are. Put a decent central midfielder and a wide player to replace Gilliead and this team would automatically look fitter and more energetic

Sutton actually has a good engine on him-just not the level of skill.
Still think he could do a good job in constant pressing -like Gattuso or Park Ji Sung used to do-use him to put the opposition on the back foot constantly and he’s still got the pace and stamina to track back

You could have a point there. perhaps Sparks told Turnbull that we were a diesel engine and when Adams arrived he said "WTF, my teams run on unleaded" so got him sacked ?

If Stuart was 25 years younger we would have sold him, We never turn money down even if it is a cheap offer

I might have got the perception totally wrong here but has it anything to do with the fact that predominantly our players are naturally really slow.

I mean I'm 41 and overweight but wouldn't be that far behind Callum Cooke in a foot race.

Perhaps if they were a bit faster to start with they wouldn't look as slow or off the pace at the end when they are tiring

Don't think you would catch Sutton! It's just a shame he hasn't got the same ball skills as Cooke and Gilly. But what he does do is take the man on and force them to make a challenge. If the other 2 drove at the opposition in the same way I have no doubt they would be more dangerous and probably win free kicks in and around the area. Instead they are content to check their run, turn the other way and look for someone else to take responsibility

I reckon it’s partly due to how sloppy we are in possession. We give the ball away cheaply, usually as we move into attacking third which means our midfielders and fullbacks (who have committed forward) have to run back and help defend/recover the ball.

I find that a lot of our games under Adams are like a basketball game, end to end and chaotic. Which is fun to watch at times but inevitably means our players run out of steam. As Adams seems quite reluctant to make substitutions earlier in the game we end up with tired players for the final 15 minutes.

Antoni Sarcevic going to Stockport from bolton. Brilliant signing and would have been good for us at this level. Shame we can’t sign players out of window

We can't compete with Stockport on wages.

Unlike Stockport, Wrexham unable to sign anyone until January due to being in Wales, bonkers isn't it

Remember it well the Blades fans giving it large at 2 - 0, then as you say Jones got the first and James got the equiliser, then we sang to the Blades fans " 2 - 0 and you f####d it up2 - 0 and you f####d it up" they weren't impressed.
