I am at the moment cautiously optimistic, I just wanted to create a thread around this.

I’ve had many negative but honest realistic assessments of the club recently, but now I can realistically say I am optimistic about the future again, McCall is gone and our temp manager is proving to be better than McCall in the interim period.

I’m excited to see what the new year brings in terms of results, I can see us easily staying up now and I’m even hoping we’ll finish in a better league position. Time will tell, maybe we can turn around this awful season and get some consolidation out of it and climb the table.

Is anyone else currently feeling cautiously optimistic ?

If Southend hadn’t started picking up points, if I trusted Sparks and Rhodes to get the right man and if we had a good record in the January transfer window, then I would be more optimistic, but the faintest of green shoots of recovery are there.

I might be optimistic when all these staff who we are supposedly signing according a leaking tap, that might actually be a rusty faucet in the men's bathroom that cannot supply even luke warm water, actually join the club.

Until then, we don't have a manager, don't have a head of recruitment, don't have a director of football, and don't have anything else.

If you're optimistic BEFORE those things actually happen, you're deffo going in blind faith.

I am far more optimistic now McCall has gone, that's for sure. His stubbornness in not changing his mind about free agents and persistance with the failing 3-5-2 formation together with still selecting BRE and DMH was his downfall.

Anyhow, we move on and look forward to welcoming a new manager this next few days.

Trueman and Sellars have proved we have the players to keep us up playing the right formation, it's now up to the new manager.

Got to agree about the January window. Its been embarrassing in recent years.Hopefully no more “we were close but couldn’t get it over the line” scenarios.Definitely green shoots.Last 2 games has shown there is something there. Some good additions could turn them into a team we can start to enjoy watching again.

Didn't we have this scenario when we got relegated from league one?

    Awful.

Then won a few around xmas.

Everyone thought we'd stay up comfortably.

Got to Feb. Players downed tools again.

    Relegated.

We've got to get competition for places. The players have to know that if the foot comes off the pedal, someone else gets a turn.

I thought we were excellent, relatively, yesterday and it was very encouraging.

However, I remember us going to Rochdale and destroying them 4-0 a couple of years ago. All looked potentially rosy for us. Four months later we were relegated and they finished mid-table.

If, at the end of January, we have continued to pick up points then I'll be more confident. Fingers crossed for another good showing on Tuesday.

Depends on who the new manager and recruiters are and then the addition of 4-5 quality players come January.
If we can be solid and move up to mid table then that’s a base to build on next season where a lot the useless sh1te will be out of contract and moved on

Before the Oldham FA cup game with the next league game been Cheltenham, I said I could see nothing more than 6 points from the next 6 league games. That was with McCall in charge and honestly, I didn’t harbour much hope for even 6.

The last two performances have given me a glimmer of hope things might not be as bad as I felt two weeks ago. However, as with my points prediction I’m not getting optimistic just yet. There’s still a lot more work to do at this club before getting carried away. However keep performing as we have in the past two games and we’re on the start of the right track.

Spot on. we only look better in the last two games because we were god awful under McCall even if some won’t admit it. It’s bound to be an improvement. Southend have improved. Stevenage have games in hand. We play a real 6 pointer on Tuesday against Grimsby who will probably wanna beat us after our comments from the last time we were supposed to play them.
We need 4 or 5 bodies in for serious competition. Any type of injuries in the wrong area and we are screwed

If you are 'cautiously optimistic', Platinum, the rest of us must still be suicidal . It is encouraging to see that some of these players might not be as useless as they have seemed so far but that is still a worrying aspect. McCall is reputedly a 'player's manager'. Did the squad let him down or vice versa? No doubt a new broom, fresh impetus, and January signings will see an uplift but do you think we can still hit the playoffs or should we settle for mid table survival?

People were putting money on us getting promoted. Hilarious how just a few wins (or in this case, a draw and a win) get people all misty eyed again.

This is a seriously weak league. Danny Devine and Omari Patrick heavily featuring for a team at the top end tells you all you need to know. Being hard to beat and organized is half the battle. Sadly under Stuart we were neither of those things. Hopefully it looks like this will no longer be the case and we should start to climb the table. We will know a bit more come mid to late feb on how we will finish.
