Very realistic and true to life though Tony. They were never the same players after that.

Sports of every sort, toys and games .
I used to get my maggots and my mum purchased me a wooden rattle there for my 6th birthday in 60. A top top shop.
Remember the other great shop on Manningham Lane opposite the Yorkshire Penny Bank. Two Yorkshire cricketers . Sutcliffe and Barber’s wasn’t it called?

My cousin is married to one of the Carter brothers who owned the shop.
When it closed he bought Nichol and Brown toy shop in Halifax.

Childhood memories of the 70's. Nagging my mother to take me in there everytime we were in town, just so I could marvel at their subbuteo section

Early 80s for me but I used to get the bus into town just to have a look around the subbuteo section too before a steak pie and chips in kirkgate market.

    Great days!

I remember after going to the Odeon (Manchester Road) to watch the highlights of the 1966 World Cup with my mates, then going over to Carters and buying a pair of shinpads with the rest of my spending money.

I remember going to town every month with mum and dad who paid their monthly mortgage in cash and they always took me to Carters to buy a subbuteo team.

Carters and a stamp shop in Idle village were my favourite childhood shops.

Didn't Carter's also have a massive Scalextric section and you used to be able to test some of the new cars out they were trying to flog? It's some years ago but I'm sure I used to be allowed to play Scalextric now and again when i the shop was quiet.

Yeah that's right. I've just remembered that I used to get airfix models from them too and the little paint pots to paint them once they were built.

Same here. And when I got bored of the Airfix models I hung them on the back of the garage, then down to Carters for airgun pellets, came home and shot em to bits. The Airfix Luftwaffe messed with the wrong person.

Can you even get air guns nowadays? No Carters, no Grattan catalogue...

    Great memories.

I loved Carters as a kid. The subbuteo section was incredible. I remember getting a West Ham United team after the 1980 cup final.

I bought my first ever kit there for Christmas. It was a Bury kit, white shirt, blue shorts and the thing that set it apart, was the single white stripe on the blue socks. I suppose I’d have been about 8 then. I seem to remember the kits were downstairs.
