I will be very surprised if Riley gets it actually

 

I would agree perhaps that Vince shouldn't be captain, if only to put the second half of last season well and truly behind us. However to say that he is an awful player and shouldn't be anywhere near our team is just wrong. During the first half of the season people were calling him Captain Fantastic and wanting to have his babies. Second half of the season his form fell through the floor, like most of the team, but with Vince there was no laziness, lack of effort or downing tools. It's just his touch and his form completely deserted him. If his legs haven't gone (as some have suggested) he could still be an important player for us this season.

 

I'd be hoping Killa isn't a starter this year. I like him, but he is as slow as they come with a turning circle of an oil tanker.

When I saw him I thought McGowan looked Captain Material - bit like a lower league Tony Adams.

 

My flabber would be completely gasted if Riley got it.

 

His equalising goal away at Oxford was a case in point. He refused to give up and his determination to score a cracking headed goal was there for all of us present to see. He certainly showed leadership then.

 

I agree. Vince's best period for us, by a long chalk, was the first half of two seasons back, when he played at centre back. He was terrific in that role and I still think SM made a big error in moving him out of it. His ability to play the ball out from the back was key to our great start that year; it was like having an extra midfielder.

His form in the first half of last season was very patchy. But his exceptional leap led to him getting several important goals, which masked his otherwise unimpressive form. To me he looked like his legs have gone well before his form, and that of the whole team, took a further nosedive in January.

He could still have an important role as a squad player, if he is prepared to remain with us on that basis. He could do a job on the bench as CB cover or to bring on for extra defensive midfield protection late in a game when we are protecting a lead. But I can't see him being a starter in the current squad.

 

Only 1 man for captain for me. Only played a handful of games last season but led by example - Ryan McGowan.

My opinion is that he was part of the troublemakers, but a bit more professional than Wyke and McMoan. McGowan for me.

 

Not sure Kilgallon will be a regular this season.

 

If he asked would you tell him "no"?

 

I'd be very surprised if Vince is still at the club by kick off of the first game let alone in the squad to be captain. Kilgallon would be the obvious choice but don't be surprised at maybe Riley getting it

Add it as an incentive for Wyke to sign a new contract with bonuses attached - not always worked in the past! However, he may step up a level with a bit more responsibility???

Failing that, my choice would be McGowan but like @Goose, wouldn’t be surprised to see Riley.

 

I agree Vince probably won't be captain but I do expect him to be here. However he will only figure if he gets his form back. Let's not forget for a defensive midfielder he presents more of a goal threat than most of our strikers
