Well Vaughan played 20 odd games and demanded to leave and while Clayton tried he wasn’t up to it. Novak was ok when fit so maybe dreadful was harsh.
15 crap players in 5 years then. 3 crap strikers a season on average. Brilliant.

    You beat me to it.
Doyle and Vaughan were both badly misused as target men.
And Donaldson could have done a good job for us as a No 10. He had a couple of cracking games there before we binned him off. That passing ability must have been obvious in training, so why did we wait so long to use it?

Those players cost money these days…You only have to look at the Jan window across the ENTIRE EFL. Only the Hollywood free pass brings that. Nothing to do with the CEO , it’s down to the owner unwilling to invest.
If the money isn’t there how on earth can any club in the division buy players with the quality of 1 or 2 divisions higher.

They had the fortune on the grass, bar Stockport and Wrexham, they have all done it without money. So did we with Parky. The wheel of fortune, then it all comes crashing down as success on the green stuff wained because money wasn’t / isn’t available to sustain it. Our time will come but as others frequently suggest, one off success is useless without funding to support further progression. ie We can get promoted but we cannot afford to sustain it without continual success and or investment. Precisely what Stockport’s “plan” contains if it’s read in the proper context.

    What PARKINSON focused on.

Lawn (and Rhodes) had plenty of hare brained schemes with development squads/RIASA/Montegnee before Parkinson came along and dug them out of the hole they'd got the club into.

While things like long term strategies, development setups and football identity throughout the club sound great, in reality Parkinson's approach when he was here is the best chance we have of getting out of league 2. Players with character and leadership skills who can handle the expectation as well as play a bit.

Lawn cut every expense and employees and run the club on a shoestring for one overriding reason, To give Parky the biggest budget he could regarding the player squad, Unlike Sparks who seems to see support staff as important as the players to employ

I know exactly how it was run. I never said no support staff. But they were paired to the.minimum needed to run the club efficiently with some volunteers to keep costs down to the minimum with even some staff doubling up jobs. Lawn was an expert at cutting all costs along with David Baldwin he brought in on no wages to benefit the playing side of the club including the staff Parky asked for he never skimped on the playing side just the ancillary

I'd have some agreement for your comments if we had "skimped" on the playing side.

I'm pretty certain that Parky's budget, ranked relative to the appropriate division, on average was less than what all managers have had under Rupp. We were always discussing the need to push the boat out.

Let's remember, it was widely reported that when we got relegated, we had the 7th best budget.

We simply employ the wrong managers or rather don't give some of them long enough, which of course we can very much blame Rupp etc.

But we haven't "skimped" on playing staff?

Do you think the likes of Cook, Gilliead, Smallwood, Stubbs, Pattinson, Chapman and Walker are on the lowest L2 wages or something?

They've fouled up with their non-existent managerial employment policy!! Not with supporting their manager in the market. We've some players who've had FOUR different managers in less than two years - all of which see the game totally different to one other. Not certain that's conducive to getting the best out of them!!

Which is shown by the fact that we've seen, from the performances against Stockport, Mansfield, Wrexham, Gillingham, Swindon, Barnsley and Derby - that there's enough quality in the squad. We simply have one, two or even ten players - who simply cannot handle the pressure when they are expected to perform. Heads have gone. Too many different voices telling them different things. Problem is there are no simple solutions to it. But we can't blame the board and say they have "skimped" on recruitment.
