I thought that was a well deserved man of the match for Callum Guy last night. I’ve been really impressed by his performances since he signed on loan in January.

Does anyone think there is a realistic chance of keeping him on a permanent deal next season?

Would Derby want to keep him, as long as they are still in the Championship next season?

Would our owners potentially have to abandon this current low starting wage to bring in this type of player? (I’d hope this current wage/bonus structure for each player is abandoned for next season anyway)

How much do people think it would cost to sign Callum Guy?

Is another loan deal next season the best we can hope for, like we were fortunate enough to get with Josh Cullen?

What do members think? Has Bermondsey Bantam joined this forum as he was always good for this kind of insight on Claret & Banter?

I like Guy - his enthusiasm and tempo are first rate but he doesn’t seem to be able to ‘calm’ the game down, put his foot on the ball and look for a ‘killer’ pass. Everything he does seems so frantic!
I hope Bermondsey has joined (or will) - I used to enjoy his posts, but the poor guy used to get some grief (undeservingly imo).

Guy has certainly become a popular player in the short time he has been at VP and is, rightly so, earning excellent reviews for his whole hearted performances. However, I suspect the only chance we will have of having him back next year will be if Derby get promoted to the PL. Then we might have him on loan for the season or possibly purchase. I have no idea though of what his worth is likely to be, but if he does become available his appearances for us will have alerted other clubs as well. If he were to come back on loan much would also depend on the feedback he gives Derby on the way he has been looked after at VP; the coaching and development he has received and what his views are in respect the poor run of form - and why - the team has gone through from when he first joined on loan. I hope we do see him here next season that's for sure.

    Fair summation .....
Pretty much as I see it. The lad is far from the 'finished product', but has the makings to be it.
As you suggest, City have next to no chance, unless Derby hit the big time - But even so ..... only a loan, and that is hoping Derby don't want an increase on what we are currently paying them. Anybody ITK about that ?

Guy is everything Vincelot should be. He flies into challenges left right and centre and has a real energy and ability to get up and down the pitch. His passing is not the best but for a defensive midfielder I'm more interested on his tackling, which is superb. And as a young lad, he's still got time to develop and fits in with Edin's model but unlike other signings, has proved himself capable at this level.

I hope we do sign him next year. I can't see derby playing him, they spend fortunes every year and have a lot of similar players already.

Danny Devine needs to take a good look at how Callum Guy approaches a game if he has any ideas of making it as a professional footballer. From reading the comments from Derby fans they rate Guy highly and think he is worth a first team squad place.
Not sure we would get him back next season.

He needs to play alongside a creative midfielder who has a good passing game. His energy, commitment and tackling are first rate, but at the moment he is not a good passer of the ball. I am not sure if that could be coached, but as a defensive midfielder, first rate for League 1 plus potential for the Championship level certainly.

Not often do you get a loan signing putting as much effort as him. Very similar to Cullen who had a similar ethic.
He is getting better the more he plays and I think he will be playing for Derby next year.

If we get chance I'd snap this lad up on a perm if possible but if not a season long loan. Looks a decent defensive midfielder at this level with bags of potential

Is that the same way many thought Evans would walk back into Wolves’ team or Cullen would start every week for Bolton? He’s a decent young player, but ready for the Championship? Not for me

Been decent but nowhere near a Champ player yet, done well but think we've been blinkered by the awfullness of the rest of our midfield of late, a bit like Wyke being over rated due to our other recent strikers been gash. Lad done good though and has the fight to make it in the game.

Not sure about that they saw enough about him to give him a long contract. I am sure he will be at least in their squad next season

He was given a long contract because they see the long term future in the boy. Just because they tied him down doesn’t mean he’s ready for 1st team duties.

Agreed. He needs a full season at this level to improve his all round game. In a defensive role he has been excellent - considering Connor Ronan is highly rated at Wolves, Guy got the better of him and forced him to be subbed because of his defensive work. But there's definitely improvement to be made using the ball in attack.

He isn’t an attacking midfielder although he made a couple of good runs on Tuesday. He is a ball winner and I think he is beyond his years at doing that

Agreed. He does that job very well but if he wants to play in the Championship then he needs to prove that he can use the ball well as well. I'm not talking about defence splitting assists, just keeping it simple and recycling the ball. He hasn't shown that he's any better than Dieng in that sense just yet. Possibly because of the way the team is set up at the moment.

A bright talent, has a lot going for him but needs work to be Championship level for me and hopefully that will be with us on loan next season.

I hope he is here as well but I think he will be in the Derby Squad. Time will tell.

He takes about 10/15 mins to get going but shows a lot more drive and ambition than most of our own players. Next season him or someone like him as well as a playmaker are 2 players this club screams out for.

I certainly wouldn't complain if he came back for a full season
