Just going on an article i read in one of the Sunday paper. Only three clubs posted a profit according to that and it was for a couple of years ago, don't think last years accounts are out yet.
Sheff utd were one of the others apparently, although non made huge amounts, Burnleys quoted as £2 million.
The fact is , the vast riches these clubs receive, they should all be making a profit.

Just had a quick google. Another charlatan , who has used the clubs money to acquire a club, thus putting them in massive debt to him. Alan Pace of ALK Capital, the gentleman involved

Yes , i have just read the article and of course Burnley's on field performance is the ultimate reason they have been relegated. Although if that extra £30 million or so in the bank had been invested in a few more players, they could have stayed up, thus earning more money.
The story just re- inforces my belief that the vast majority of football club owners, especially at the higher level are not fit for purpose. They have no empathy with the clubs they own and its the loyal supporter that always has to pay the price.

Exactly, though I do recall some folk on here feeling rather envious at the time.

Burnley had the perfect formula with Dyche at the helm. Even if relegated they were in a good position financially to go back up. This American model of effectively buying the club with its own money might work if you are Manchester United who will always been in a position to service the debt but Burnley don't have that luxury. A case of the new owners not understanding English football at all.

Burnley will probably cover the £65 mill debt with the sales of Pope, Cornet, McNeil and Tarkowski, however the cost is, they probably lose 4 of their best players and not replace them with anywhere near the quality.

Not really. Tarkowski is out of contract. Cornet has a release clause of 17.5M. Nick Pope won't command a huge fee as a limited keeper who can't really use his feet, something high paying clubs want. And McNeills release clause is thought to have been around the 20-25M mark.

They also still haven't settled to compensation for Dyche and owe 8 mill on the Weghorst deal still. Burnley are in a bit of bother, parachute payments will help for one season but after that, they might be in real bother.

We’ve had some good rows with Burnley over the years, sounds like we could rekindle it in the next few years if they are in such a state. Wonder if they have any young talent they want to get off the books to help bring the wage bill down.

They will get £25m for Pope imo. West Ham and Newcastle already linked. Weghorst will be sold too so that will cover the psyment. Brownhill will command a decent fee. A few looking at him.

Now they are Championship they might have some youth they are willing to lend to L2.

How ironic, I've just been on the Burnley fans forum, and they're discussing Bradford City's potential future signings and sales!

Newcastle about to confirm the signing of Dean Henderson it sounds like from the MEN. They think it's a season long loan with a future fee, but United want £15m for Henderson. If he's going for that, i cant see Pope going for anything north of that unless someone is desperate, but far too early int he window to tell. Think they'll have one shot at going back up but this sale will stump them massively, having to lose 5 or 6 of their assets to balance books wont let them build. I say one shot just due to parachute payments covering most of the TV revenue they will lose dropping down, gives them a chance. If not, they will quickly become a QPR, Birmingham, Reading type ex PL club who had to have everything must go sales to keep afloat in the league below.

Burnley have a feeder thing setup with Morecambe, usually they loan 2 a season to them who are favoured, so the better youth might end up going there as there's already an agreement? Had a look at the lads they've sent out this season.... none really had good runs in their sides in L1/2 apart from one of the Morecambe lads.

The press were widely reporting that Yanited wanted £40m for Henderson. There is no way on earth that Newcastle sign Henderson for £15m - that will possibly be a loan fee (including wages) with a future fee top up involved. Ramsdale cost £30m last summer from Sheff United!!! Pope is an England international, albeit our number 3. He might be 30 now but I would suggest £20m is a fair fee for him.

Not saying Burnley won't struggle financially though - but they do have some assets worth a few bob which will keep them wolf from the door.

£10m - Pope isn't one of these 'footballing' keepers like Ederson etc. Maybe he'll improve over time but your estimation always felt high.

Thats true. Looks like I over estimated but he did only have 12 months left on his contract which I probably overlooked. Newcastle Cronickle saying £12m plus add ons.

Think Newcastle got a cracking deal there.
