Can you name a British owned mainstream car manufacturer that sells volume?

There isn’t one that’s why this country is broken, with GDP predominantly propped up by sales of Gold and insurance. Neither of which provides decent jobs in numbers and as a result tax returns are miniscule compared to what manufacturing employment brings. Like it or not, thats Thatchers undeniable legacy .

Like it or not, countries like Germany , Norway etc have got the best balance by a country mile. So while some consider Mercedes etc shite, this country would give its right arm to see similar BRITISH OWNED manufacturers.

Mate, it's not the mid-20th century anymore where we need to produce everything on this tiny island, just because. We should be producing goods in the places that is best and trading fairly with others. Anyway, I digress...

We have zero to trade , that’s my point. We can’t trade fairly if we have nothing to export. We digress., back to shite Mercs . ;)

As of may this year, great Britain was the fourth largest exporter in the world.
We still manufacture more than people think.

Why would you exclude one of, if not, our biggest exports?

That’s like saying if you take out the car industry, Germany doesn’t export as much.

    But, we digress

You need to look beyond the spin. We have moved from 7th to 4th not because we have manufactured more, not because we have sold more services, financial or otherwise, but because the global price of gold has increased due to the insecurity in the world. And stocks of gold held in British banks etc have increased in value. For historical reasons those increases in gold prices are bizarrely included in exports. The exports figure even includes the value of gold which we hold on behalf of foreign governments etc, wealthy individuals, despots etc who regard us as a safer haven than their own domestic banks. Without holding other people's gold stocks, our exports would be the same as the previous quarter.

If you want to.educate yourself or just know more, the ONS wrote a paper on this only recently to counter the spin and portray the 'true' position.

We were the top once upon a time.

I don’t wish to be pedantic Andy but facts do matter . We are fourth if we include , gold, money , finance , we are 8th on manufactured goods. The Gov loves to quote the 4th mantra when talking about exports without telling the full picture. I know different!

“The UK is 8th on the list of world exporters when it comes to manufactured goods, with a total of £224 billion in manufactured goods output in 2023. “

Considering we are the world’s 6th largest economy that shows the stark reality of manufactured export levels or lack of!

We would have won the league lat year, if we took away any game we lost.
It is all part of the GDP
You have to take into account all the facts.
I get tired of people doing this country down and Braford city, when things are not as bad as they try to make out.
This is still a great country to live in and city are a great team to support, irrespective of results.

I'll be honest, being a fairly regular visitor to mainland Europe, if I came into some money and left the UK and i don't think I'd miss it. It has it's good bits but generally it's.ni different to anywhere else.
