Does anyone know where I can find the clubs policy on this?

Last season in the NWC we always brought 1 litre plastic bottles of water in without hassle - that we’d bought from Tesco walking up to the ground.

This year few stewards have stopped us and questioned bringing 1L plastic bottles in. One steward seemed to think 500 mL was the max allowed now. Other one said just go in!

    anyone else heard similar?

I know its petty (boring thread indeed!) but wondered if its new stewards not familiar with regs, or if stuff has changed. I refuse to pay stadium catering prices, the rip off they are!

I think this is the nearest you will get to an answer:-
    18
18 Under the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985 (as amended), the following are offences for which a person can be arrested by a police officer and conviction could result in a Banning Order being made:
18.1 attempting to enter the Ground or being inside the Ground whilst drunk; and/or
18.2 being in possession of any intoxicating liquor, or bottle, can or other portable container and which could cause damage or personal injury, when entering the Ground or in a public area of the Ground from which the event can be directly viewed.

That could loosely be construed as any bottle, irrespective of the content!

Here is a link to the full stadium regulations. https://images.gc.bradfordcityfcservices.co.uk/afc8e2f0-2908-11ef-bcc4-334ada53542c.pdf

You could print it off and ask the Steward to show you where it says water bottles cannot be taken into the ground.

Once again there is nothing stopping you cutting and pasting your post onto an e.mail and sending it to the club.

Cheers. I think they are just making it up as they go along. The 500ml bottles of coke they serve in the kiosks are just as much of a potential missile as a litre bottle of volvic, but in reality people buy it to drink and not lob it!

my understanding was always no cans or glass, but plastic bottles were fine.

My loose recollection is that they use to ask that the caps were removed. So if the bottle was thrown, it wouldn’t fly as far.
Honestly think you are better e.mailing Paula Watson.

In the winter months I take a thermos of coffee into the ground, never been stopped, or had the contents checked.

Every game we take two thermos of coffee, two or three 500ml bottles of coke and 2 cartons of orange juice and have our bag searched every game going into McCall/Hendrie and have never had an issue.

I think they probably are making it up as they go alonng

In the colder months, I normally take a small flask. That is heavy and more like a torpedo than any plastic pop bottle. As other posters have said, i've never been questioned

I’m afraid it’s the sad state of the world we live in that brings about these heath and safety restrictions. You just have to accept them.
The same reason you can longer take bags / rucksacks into Wembley stadium.
Most people just have their essential daily items in their bag and not a bomb but hey ho it’s 2024 and you have to be careful. I’m certain the victims of the Manchester Arena tragedy wish the authorities had banned rucksacks or at least checked it.
Just because it’s inconvenient that you can’t take your cheap Tesco water in, you have to think of the bigger picture that there are cretins out there that will spoil it for everyone.

I think the issue is the inconsistency rather than the rules.

if there are rules then make them clear like other venues do and enforce them consistently.

Fine, tell people that taking their own food and drink into the stadium is not allowed. Wouldn’t bother me so long as it’s consistent

I think that is what is being asked. What are the rules are there is no consistency

Been taking bottles in for years though. Just wondered if the clubs policy had changed…..they still sell bottles in the kiosks

I thought plastic bottles of water were allowed max 1/2 litre , providing the screw top was removed before entry. Wembley was certainly using that rule on the occasions I have been inc non City games?

I suppose it’s open to interpretation depending on venue?

Last year , I brought a 2L bottle (and 2 plastic cups) of soft drink, something I have done numerous times before. At the bottom of the kop I was told by a steward that the size was not allowed, just 500ml bottles. I asked why and whom made this call. I got no relevant reply to this , so asked for a senior steward whom arrived.
He backed his steward ( I guess rightfully) so I asked where was it on the club charter or EFL charter.
He stated it was what he was instructed to do but would not clarify whom the instructor was, despite my protestations. Was it the club? No formal response.

In the end (10 minutes later) I was allowed in with 2L soft drink and informed not to bring again. I have since brought a number of times and never been questioned since.

The club should clarify if this what they expect there stewards to implement but most importantly, allow us to understand their reasoning.

I’ll be honest and go as far as I’m not even that fussed to understand the reasoning, though it would be nice, just a consistent approach and a publicised set of rules like other venues

My thinking too. I'm cool either way but what's to say I can bring 4 x 500ml but no 2 litres. I'll guarantee you @Storck@Storck I can't lig a 2L as far as a 500ml bottle, though I would do neither.

The consistent approach you denote is absolutely correct

Makes perfect sense, take the caps off bottles of water, but you can take metal flasks in with the screw lids on, absolutely stupid.

I imagine that in general someone is less likely to throw a metal flask than a disposable bottle. I know it became a bit of a problem at concerts where people started throwing full bottles at the acts to the point that venues insisted on the lid being taken off (Which actually with all the new lids where the cap is connected for environmental reasons becomes harder) but at other music events such as festivals where you can't really police that the same way it's still an issue and some acts have been injured by idiots throwing full bottles at them.

I would also imagine the bottle size as well may come down to the volume where it is deemed that if it is something other than water it poses a big risk to life.

They wanted to take my water from me away at Notts County. Then the steward changed it to just the bottle lid, and then, after some banter, he told me just to take it through with the lid. Not sure if that helps but seems clubs across the league may have a similar rule

And the rule being they make it up as they go along or that they are all inconsistent and depneds on how much you argue/banter with them
