The point of both cases is the reason for the stops. For BRE was there really cloned plates. For the athletes were they really driving erratically. We'll see.

Completely agree. I referenced the disproportionality in my post. It's wrong and needs to be equalised, not even arguing that fact.

It's not the only, or even biggest, statistical anomaly about being stopped though.

As I say though it's creating a two tier system where BAME people can complain about being stopped but I wouldn't have access to that process. it's a difficult thing to justify and even more difficult to overcome.

However, I will say once again, I agree the process needs to be equalised.

On the basis it's a club sponsor that's taking the case, I'm not sure there's a lot of money involved.

The situation made no sense. Yes, search him after that then just search the car and move on.

Well it depends how concrete you want the reason to be.

3 of the 4 times I've been stopped have been because my behaviour and actions could have been deemed as suspicious but in reality it was nothing more than me driving through certain areas at certain times. They were certainly no more evidence based than what BRE put up with.

A lot of stops will simply be because someone is acting suspicious which is obviously subjective and not based on firm evidence. Are you happy to lose the positive results of those?

 

A vehicle with a marker for firearms should not be pulled over by local plod with a taser.
