Shocking there’s no big screen/ fan park in City square. It would have been packed today.

I think you had to pay to get in. The fact the council could not organise the big screen in town for such an event when they had years to do it speaks volumes for their incompetence. Why have a big screen and an area specifically designed for large public gatherings?

A supposed major city that can't handle an event such as this, questions need to be asked of the council and whether it is fit for purpose? The money a fan zone would have generated in centenary square, especially with the favourable kick off times, would have more than paid for itself and the policing costs. Excuse after excuse from a governing body that continuously shows its completely incapable of running this metropolitan district.

They did it the first time after the screen went up and there was trouble and fighting. So they decided not to do it again as they would need to police it and probably stop all the bars serving booze which the owners wouldn’t be happy about

But Leeds can do it? It's just bollocks and so backward thinking.......my youngest lad and his pals (all Bradfordians) got the train to Leeds today to watch the game in the fan zone and people wonder why Bradford's footfall is so low?

The screen is in Millennium Square in the centre of the city and it was well supported yesterday according to my neighbour's sons who were there. Booze wasn't allowed in the viewing area itself and there were lots of stewards supervising that. But of course most of the bars etc around the area were open ... and being well used! It demonstrates what can be done with a little planning and the support of the local businesses.

Yep I agree I just think they located the screen badly to then have no booze as it is directly outside Wetherspoons etc.

Interestingly, it is the same in Manchester.

There has been a big screen in Manchester every World Cup that I can remember. They have been great. It is such a cosmopolitan city, a Spanish game can draw several thousand Spaniards alone. The 2010 final, viewed by about 10,000 at Castlefield, was a brilliant night...plenty of beer being consumed as well.

This time, nothing. Policing issues have been cited, but a big problem is the growth of city centre living and issues with residents complaining about noise. Completely different situation to Bradford, but Bradford isn’t alone in missing a trick here.

I know England games can be problematic, but as others have said, it is a great way to get footfall into the city, which it really really needs.

I was down there last week.. Sat night and it was dead

The whole of sunbrige wells not just the Alibi, the pub on the left as you walk in has shut also.. as well as most of the stalls

God knows how the laurel and hardy bar or whatever its called is still open.. its a sports bar now and still rank

Maybe the Odeon opening up will increase footfall otherwise its doomed

It is a crying shame though, the only modern bars in Bradford. It was never unique though, I can think of 3 bars that I go to in Leeds that are similar, cellar style, brick vaulted ceilings etc

I was in Bradford Saturday lunchtime & went in the Shoulder of Mutton, first time in over 20+ years, I lasted 20 seconds in there, was like Coronation Street episode from 1972. I then went to the City Vaults, this is one of Bradford's busiest pubs and a good one, maybe 20 people in tops. It's a vicious circle, I am wary of going to Bradford because it's always dead and go to Leeds because I am guaranteed a good time. Can't see me going again tbh.

Someone new is taking over the vacated Bradford Brewery building. Similar set up as before, brewing and serving.
