I do believe with the advancement in technology etc, we need to think about the death penalty for crimes like this.
Why should the state be responsible for their keep, when found guilty.

Maybe, but with the way our 'government' has played fast and loose with our civil liberties in the recent past, wouldn't put it past them to put legislation in place to administer death by lethal injection for doing 35mph in a 30 zone!

 

Going off topic, death penalty discussions should be in general chat.
I will say one thing though. Miscarriages of justice are not uncommon. You can't give someone wrongly convicted their life back, but you can let them out of jail.
Just remember the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four.

 

We are 50 years further on with technology now though, different approaches all together now with evidence available ...

That doesn't prevent miscarriages of justice. Evidence withheld from the defence - not murder I grant you, but I give you the Post Office, plus the man in Manchester jailed incorrectly for decades for rape. Expert evidence is not infallible.

I'd support the death penalty in some cases. For the most heinous crimes, where its not just beyond reasonable doubt, but beyond irrefutable doubt.

 

And paedophiles.

 

And those so called "honour killings"-you know those where the family name has been besmirched because someone wants to live their own life but the family still wants to control what they do. So they just kill them.

Imagine killing someone to uphold the family reputation. That's a bizarre thing to consider. Now the family are accomplices to murder. How is that tradition now going to be upheld? fecked up approach to life if you ask me.

 

Not just Bradford that’s a dump Harehills in Leeds is just as bad if not worse. We as a country need to have a very frank discussion on what to do going forward because some very major changes are needed.

Whilst this was being boomed over the tannoy at VP, the T&A released a story as if it was a car crash even though Simon Parker was writing in his blog from the ground that it was a possible firearms incident. What dire reporting from our local paper to initially report such an incident as a car crash and not actually correct it till after 7pm, nearly 4 hours later.

I mean I have been to VP alot in my lifetime and these kind of tannoy announcements are rare, thankfully. But major police incident never had the "car crash tag".

Anyhow it now appears this scumbag had been in court with threatening to kill this same woman, he pleaded not guilty and was let out on bail to walk the streets. Surely a threat to kill warrants remand until trial, and if not it shows how broken our criminal justice system is, with people who plead no guilty now, not being put on trial till late 2025 due to the current court backlogs.
