Hi Andy, I had flu all week in the lead up until Christmas, and today is the first day I feel fine again (I'm just very tired).

Hope you feel better, bud, I'll be there tonight too.

Feel like I was robbed of a full week though lol

    ------------------Lewis-----------------
    Halliday--Platt--Crichlow--Foulds
    --------------Smallwood-------------
    Wright------Chapman------Banks
    ----------Cook-----Young------------

If we were going to switch formations, I'd rather play something like that.

Chapman would have to drop back at times, or we'd be overrun in midfield, but there's no benefit from playing both Smallwood and Gilliead so far deep. They're both off form, and constantly misplace passes to each other.

Smallwood might benefit if he has no option but to look backwards or forwards, rather than laterally.

Young up front with Cook, just because Ololiver is loling hilolrious.

You want someone dropped because of a lack of mobility and choose Gillead ahead of Smallwood. Lol x 1000.

I said Gilliead because as a defensive midfielder (which is what we signed him as) Smallwood is better.
In the right system Smallwood is decent at his job.
The problem we clearly have is we have no momentum going forward.
That’s never been Smallwoods job at any club.
Teams regularly come to city and have a player who sits in front of the back 4.
But they also have legs going forward.
    Something we clearly lack.

Im all for playing a more attacking formation, but Smallwood isn’t the quickest player. Non of those players can play defence splitting passes & it would most likely result in Harrogate playing a low block, us struggling to break them down, an getting done on the counter time an time again

Id rather have Hughes try this

    Lewis
    Halliday Platt Crichlow Foulds
    Smallwood East Gilliead
    Banks Cook Chapman

We’l have 3 bodies in the middle to help us win the midfield battle, Chapman gets played in his preferred position, an we don’t get over run on the counter

The alternative is sticking with a 4-2-3-1, Chapman dropping down to occupy Gilliead's position, and Young playing behind Cook.

I think we could all come up with a slightly unsatisfactory alternative formation. Smallwood/East/Gilliead is a little too defensive, especially since that 4-3-3 is still largely Cook up front on his own (I'm certain that's how it would work out, more of a 4-5-1).

Let's hope Hughes has a creative answer tonight, mate!

Problem is we don't have that player at the club. Gillead has legs a plenty. Smallwood is slow and doesn't cover half as much ground. It's the other players who have not produced in there - Chapman, and the wide players.

In fact all of it if Sutton starts wide - surely, surely not. Must be playing 4-3-3-.

Surely Chapman out wide, Sutton in attacking midfield?

    I don't know.

    Hard to work out.

4-3-3 that isn’t it. Oliver flanked by chapman and wright.

Smallwood and gillead CM with Sutton, who no doubt is the one bombing on
