I'd swap the positions of Walker and Chapman.

 

Despite some comments on him, Gilliead has been a first name in the team sheet player at this club and every other club but Newcastle. Must be doing something right that so many managers like.

 

I got to Taylor then stopped reading.

 

I agree. In the absence of Pattison, Smallwood and Gillead seem to be the number one partnership.

 

Franz Beckenbauer would look poor playing alongside Taylor.

 

Agree Stubbs for Taylor. 3-4-1-2 walker behind the front 2

 

I think Walker has looked his most effective when played there lately. Could go with a three, including two of the above.

 

Harsh on pointon to miss out? Who will the sponsors pick as MOTM?

 

I think it will be. Smallwood and Gillead with Walker at the point seems to be the go to at the moment.

I'd like to see Smallwood at the base with Walker and Pointon in there though. I think it gives us the same legs as having Gillead whilst also being a bit more creative.

I'd also like to find a role for Chapman as he's impressed since returning but it's difficult in the set up above.

 

I still think Wilson has been a bit underrated on here and can make a difference. Maybe him and Chapman half a game each until Chapman is fully match fit?

 

What position is Wilson playing in the current system though? I think, same as Chapman and maybe even Pointon, the system doesn't quite fit the players.

 

Not sure Chapman can do another 90 after Tuesday. I'd keep him on the subs bench to come on and make impact in the second half when oppo's defence may be tired rather than at the start.

 

There are players who were signed for 4231 and then 541 or 523 or whatever Hughes was trying to do. And then the wingers who were signed when he decided to revert to 4231. An absolute mess caused by Hughes which Alexander is trying to sort out. Sadly, wingers don't fit his new system unless brought on to try to save or win a game in the last ten minutes or so at the expense of a centreback.. And we don't need two defensive midfielders as that only leaves you with three attackers. I think GA made his thinking clear by his selection on Tuesday. So a number of players, both permanent and loanees, will find themselves surplus to requirement.

 

Having watched the pre-match interview, I feel sorry for GA. He looks sad anyway, which is a change from his smiley first day but the questions are media ask are just stupid.

They asked him basically if winning at home is important... Well duh! Then ask him three or four questions about Jon Coleman and if he prefers a McDonald's big Mac or a Burger King whopper, or might as well have asked that.

Why are we not asking the real questions like how do we ensure a first half like at Notts C doesn't happen again? Why has McDonald been forgotten about? Oduor playing in the centre against Barnsley and is that where GA sees him etc. It's not hard.

The voices are familar from years gone by so maybe some of these media lot should retire and let a new younger person who will ask serious questions have a go

 

Yeah get that. I think Wilson and Chapman are our only decent out and out wingers

Taylor has had good and bad moments in games, but Stubbs is way out of form for me. He needs to do more, and I think it may be a similar case to Cook, where he knows he's a starter, so he doesn't give as much as he can. An appearance on the bench might be a kick up the @rse

In fact, I got called out for saying we have no wingers a while back - we actually do have several wingers, but only 1 or 2 are any good.
