    Does anyone remember much about Bobby going to Wigan?

    He ended up playing for them for 2 seasons and think he was their top scorer for both seasons.

    His last season with us was 1985/86 and it must have been a big decision to sell him.

    Looking back now it seems odd that we didn’t keep him at City.

    Strage how things work out Bobby went to Wigan and we got Jewell who after a decent career at Valley Parade became manager and took us to the Premiership.

    Sure I read that Bobby himself realised he didnt have the fitness levels for what was the equivalent of championship football and sought out a move himself.

    Didn’t we replace the great Bobby with Mark Leonard and if I remember rightly the Leeds match at odsal was his last match for us in which he scored.

    I could be wrong ;)

    It was Trevor Cherry’s decision and Bobby Campbell was annoyed as he thought he was a better player than Mark Leonard who we brought in to replace him. His last game for City was the league cup tie against Newcastle which was the game after the Leeds game which as you say was the last goal he scored for us, he went to Wigan for a £30,000 fee.

    Paul Jewell was bought in the summer of 1988 Dave by Terry Dolan whilst Bobby was sold in the autumn of 1986 with Mark Leonard replacing him

    Early in his career I believe Mark Leonard was due to sign a contract with Everton but was injured in a car accident, or am I wrong again.

    No you are right Bronco. When he came to us he had a great belief in himself. Think he scored a great header against Everton in our cup win at VP and after he was asked if that goal was a message to Everton because they did n’t sign him. His answer was that it was a message Mark Leonard about what he can do. Sadly he never achieved the level he thought he had.

    I remember that Wigan Athletic made a big thing of signing him. There was a big publicity poster produced to promote the signing. I wonder if anyone can locate a picture of that.

    Funny the stuff you remember, I followed Wigan while Bobby was there, the Heinz sponsor sticks in my head as does the kit. Sleep well big man.

    I bought the VCR at the time Yorkshire TV put out as they were recording the game I then put the full video on YouTube, not the best quality but then again it was 1988, enjoy
