I liked Clarke when he was with you us previously. But I don't see his kind of role as a priority which needs to be replaced. Payne and Ball (and maybe even Anderson) can play that kind of role and in fairness, better than Clarke imo. He'd just be more of the same.

We need a different kind of player to improve the strength of the squad; a wide player and a different kind of striker to give Hopkin the option of playing a different formation without having to shoehorn the current squad into unfamiliar positions. Those roles should be our priority at this stage.

Rumour doing the round on Sat was that it's not Clarke returning but Mark Marshal

Marshall won’t be coming, its Clarke or no one from Charlton.

Marshall would have been a good shout more the type of player we need injuries permitting
Whether Hopkin could boost his confidence like Stuart did is also another matter
As for Billy Clarke leave him where he is and sign a target man
The next nine days will tell us which league we will be playing in next season

super Billy would be a great addition. we were a better team with him in it, and we would be again. excellent at linking play, and contrary to most, I think him and Payne in the same side would be great.

and he loved it here, reckon he'd bust a gut to play for us again.

    A massive NO for me.

Liked him when he was here and if it was in the summer window then maybe yes but for now No.

Our team lacks pace and Billy is so slow. We have link up players already in Payne and Ball. Billy wasn't an out and put forward for me.

We need a LB, Winger, and a true out and out. striker.

I would start with a deep lying central midfielder. One that can break up opponents attack, carry the ball, seek out a decent pass, and chip in with the odd goal. The forwards and attacking midfielders can score, it is the defence which is the issue and they need help. I don’t think there is any real need for a winger (Scannell should be back). Keep it on the deck, run the channels and out pace the opposition.

I would love for us to sign a new LB, CB and DM.

However, I do feel we need a winger and as we lack creativity at this minute out wide. I know Scannell is due back and that will be a big plus but our defence is so poor that we need to keep the ball as far away from them as we can.

Don't ask for much Rod do you? Steven Gerrard has now retired unfortunately. The complete midfielder doesn't exist at this level.

The League 1 equivalent, will do for me. One of the big differences between Premiership and League 1 players is the amount of mistakes they make. Far more common in League 1, but basically those attributes, accepting there would be some mistakes, would I believe make more sense than a a winger or a centre back. We have Scannell to return and have just signed O’Connor as a CB and still have Isherwood on our books.

Think you mean someone like Magic Gary when he was only 35.

I always thought Dieng could be this player for us if he hadn't left, he did that role very well for southend the other day
