Friendlies are around the corner and we’ll get a better idea very soon, but with competition for places in several positions now, how do you see us lining up next season?

it was interesting to read that at the forum MH said the signing of Smith gives him an option to now play two up front……..

That’s what I like to hear.

I said it weeks ago, I’ve a feeling 3-5-2….. So with those on the books as of now

    Lewis

    Platt, Stubbs, Taylor,

    Halliday, Pattison, Smallwood,McDonald, Odour

    Tyler Smith

    Cook

That’s my base as a starting point if going 352

Adding to the mix after 65-70 mins
    Walker
    Chapman
    Gilly
    Oggy
    Kelly if needed
    Ridehalgh if needed

Ah yes you edited it….Not bad but I don’t want to see a static back 4 but I do like your 3-3.

Well, there's either a couple of wide players coming in or we're definitely changing shape. I'm not against a wing back system but other than Oduor, who doesn't want to play there, we don't seem to have a wing back at the club either? (Is the Brentford lad a wing back)?

The squad still seems very uneven at the moment so I'm still hoping we can move on 4 or 5 and free up the space to bring in a couple more quality additions.

Yes I think he can play anywhere down the right hand side of the pitch, he said in his interview.

    Lewis
    Platt Stubbs Odusina
    Halliday Smallwood Pattison Oduor
    Walker
    Cook Smith

Odusina may raise some eyebrows but we signed him off the back of him being a very good LCB in a back three, yet haven't played him there once. He'd also add some balance to the backing the doesn't have an awful lot of mobility.

I was tempted to put in Oyegoke for Halliday but he's an unknown. I like Halliday and he's a good RB but doesn't have the qualities to be a RWB imo.

Midfield was hard. Pattison is nailed on and I think Walker is too which means one of Smallwood or McDonald rather than both.

You aren’t wrong, I do suspect there’s another three or four to come. My guess was based around no further incomings, which is obviously wrong.

Its difficult to pick one until the window is shut really. I still expect one or two more signings, definitely a right winger and a left back and maybe another winger too.
I also think that at the very least Hendrie and Young will leave, maybe others too.

It would be a big risk starting with Oduor and Oyegoke as wingbacks. Neither come with glowing reviews and both have a minimal amount of league experience. If that’s the calibre of player we’re relying on to get us out of this division then we’re in for a tough season.

What more glowing review can a 19 year old get than representing his country in the U20 world cup ?

I like this, it's a pretty strong looking 11. Although with Walker roaming inside, we'd need an attacking outlet on the left, so would like a new athletic attacking full back in place of Ridehalgh.

Representing England u20’s doesn’t automatically make you a good footballer.

No. Signings in the mould of Oyegoke and Odour are punts at best. Could turn out to be decent but could also turn out to be poor as we saw with the likes of Bola and Nevers last season. Happy to have them as squad members but it would be a big call to throw them into the deep end without knowing if they are capable of performing regularly for a side chasing automatic promotion.
