It's the same principle used by one prolific poster on here. Post enough BS and eventually something will prove to be correct! ;)

The blend of that promotion to the Prem team was superb. A really well put together squad with a couple of additions later in the season to see us over the line just about. I enjoyed the Prem years and some big wins but the signings for the promotion team were almost perfection really and the football was outstanding at times.

On the promotion/ prem team Andy O’Brien was very underrated I thought. Came through youth team but went to make nearly 200 appearances for a good Newcastle side then under robson for quite a bit. And stayed in the premier league for nearly ten years after leaving us. Plus playing 26 times for Ireland. Was solid as houses

Reading back through the thread, it's nice to see Hanson mentioned several times as 'best value for money'.

I'm really disappointed there was a period of time where Hanson was looked down upon, but feel happy it's consigned to the history books once and for all.

Ron Futcher one of the slowest players I have ever seen but what a positional sense and what a finisher.

Gareth Whalley - £600,000 One of the best midfielders we’ve had. Very underestimated in my opinion.

McLean - brought absolutely zilch to the club. He’d have looked out of place at BPA.

Big Jimmy for 7k was a steal for his service to our club.
Then made a decent profit selling a broken player who we had the best out of

Mark Schwarzer. Signed for 350k and sold for 1.5m 13 games later. Great business. Shame he wasnt here longer though, best keeper we've ever had in my opinion.

It’s a strange one, as I was one who was happy to see him leave and would be one of his critics towards the end. Without the childish name calling such as donkey as some referred to him.

But if you had a discussion about Hanson in say 2014/15 he had very few if any real critics that he had towards the end.

It was a bit of a magnetic principle towards the end in my opinion with both sides as bad as each other. You had some who would just call him no matter what which would start an argument, then those who would jump down your throat for a legit criticism which no player should be immune to. This is the main reason why there were so many arguments about him, I tried my best to stay out of them as he always gave his all for us but stayed probably a year to long.

Deserves a lot of respect though.

The £2.5m shelled out for Hopkin and then the tw@t returned and we had the double whammy of him being a sh!t manager also

Mark Shwartzer was a relatively cheap signing, and I think we got a decent fee for him. Same with all the sell on boys - Wells, McBurnie etc.

Can we list transfer fees where we totally robbed people also? I'll start with Sticks's £750k move to Villa :D

We got good money for Hanson when his injuries had made him a shadow of his best days.

Lots of good free signings over the years

Best value for a transfer fee paid is the £7,500 paid to Guiseley for James Hanson

The worst value for money by a country mile is the £2.5m paid to our friends from East of Pudsey for David Hopkin, and as others have said, he came back to haunt us as a manager

Graham Taylor giving us £650,000 for Sticks to go to Aston Villa, although he made a decent living playing at Villa, Derby, Leicester.
McCall from Rangers on a free was great business, Beages, Whalley, Lawrence.
Bobby Campbell on a free because only Mulhall trusted him, then selling him to Derby to bring him back (on a free) ? to kick start that season.

    In my lifetime:

Best value for money: James Hanson/Peter Beagrie - Found it hard to decide between the two. One helped reignite my love for the game with his partnership with Wells, helping us to promotion and scoring one of the most important goals in our recent history at Villa Park. The other was a wizard and a vital weapon in our promotion to the big time. Crazy the pocket change we paid for these two to what they contributed.

Worst Value for money: David Hopkin - Unlike his managerial stint it wasn’t really his fault, but paying £2.5 mil for a player who got injured and barely kicked a ball for us. What a total waste.

Best signing for a fee overall: Lee Mills - He was the player I pretended to be when playing with my mates, without his goals and all round play we would have never tasted the big time. Thanks Port Vale, oh and thanks for Mark Marshall to.

Worst fee signing overall: Aaron McLean - Difficult one he had competition, but after getting to watch Wells/Hanson and then the hype McLean brought with him, what a complete waste of space, and he didn’t have bad injuries to excuse him.

Best free: Stuart McCall - Don’t really think it needs an explanation.

Worst free: To many to decide, we’ve had a lot of waste of wages over the years.
