    What do people reckon?

    For what it's worth...

    Gk Lewis
    RB Halliday
    CB Platt
    CB Stubbs
    LB Richards

    DCM Gillead
    DCM Smallwood

    LM Chapman
    ACM Pattison
    RM Pointon

    CF Cook

I'd prefer different options in the middle. If Chapman recapture his form back end of last season, we get out of the division with that 11.

    Lewis

    Halliday
    Stubbs
    Tomlinson
    Richards

    Mcdonald
    Gillead

    Chapman/Odour
    Pattison
    Pointon

    Cook

Mcdonald's distribution is better than Smallwoods, Gillead can cover the hard miles to make up for Mcdonalds lack of mobility.

I think Tomlinson can fill the void that Crichlow left. Someones who's got a bit of pace an is comfortable with the ball to feet

Pattison should play closer to the goal, an its a toss up as to who plays on the left, depending on form

I dont see Pointon starting every week, I reckon Hughes would rotate between him, an all the other wingers on our books

Good point about the Gillead / Mcdonald combo. A lot of onus on Mcdonald mind. Would be great to have a really strong anchor sitting behind the centre circle.

Whens Chapman back? I'm excited by the prospect of a Chapman / Pattison / Pointon axis. It's looking grim atm but I think we've got a lot to look forward to.

Still think we'd see a massive upturn if we played 442. Seems like nobody uses it anymore but I'm certain we'd fare well. I think the central pair in your side leaves us a bit exposed but I love the width it gives us. I'd go direct with that formation and get the two wingers on the ball as much as possible.

I'd be tempted by a Pattison and Gillead partnership. Loads of legs and as long as they are disciplined it could work.

I also prefer Pattison deeper rather than in the 10 because it makes him harder to mark and he looks incredibly effective when breaking forward from deep.

With Pattison in there it also affords us another attacker in the 10 whether that be Walker, Smith or whoever.

Just to see how it pans out it'd be a breath of fresh air. There are so many options. I'll reserve judgement on Hughes till we have a full complement of players back. A line up as attacking as that will likely never happen unfortunately. Imagine sticking that XI up wat home with a simple instruction of 'go express yourselves'.

That's the crucial bit. We need Pattison with one of Gilliead, Smallwood or McDonald, to link up with whoever is playing 10. That was our problem all last season. If we play any two of Gilliead, Smallwod or McDonald we're lost, as we saw yesterday.

    Jamie Walker waving hello!

I’d have him in the 10. Pattison next to Smallwood or Gillead if we have to continue with this set up.

I could live with walker instead of Smith, but to me he's been a massive disappointment since returning from injury

Agreed. Hoping he recaptures his best form again but Hughes has signed a missmatch of players and he is a bit of an awkward one to fit in

This was exactly why I didn't think we should have given Gilliead another contract in the summer. Everyone was saying it made sense due to his versatility and whilst I get that, imo, that isn't why he was given a new 2 year deal and I always had a feeling that we'd end up back where we were last season with him and Smallwood as our central 2, with McDonald primarily used as a sub and to cover injuries/suspensions. If that pans out to be the case which I think it will, we will like you say be lost and end up with exactly the same problems we had last season. I've nothing against Gilliead and if we could have got rid of Smallwood and kept Alex I'd have been happy with that, but having both and playing both together was the issue last year and looks like it will be this season as well.

    GK: Lewis
    RB: Halliday
    LB: Richards
    CB: Stubbs
    CB: Tomkinson (I hope!)
    CM: McDonald
    CM: Pattison
    AM: Walker
    RW: Oduor
    LW: Pointon
    CF: Cook

    That be my preferred 11

GK: Doyle, DF: Okygoke DF: Kelly MF: Gilliead MF: Smallwood FW: Chapman FW: Smith

Miss out: Richardson, Platt, Odusina, Taylor, Ridehalgh, Rowe, Osadebe, Wilson, Tulloch, Ofaka, Youmbi, Oliver, Derbyshire.

Scary that we have 13 senior pros that cant make the matchday 18.
